Looking to share processes. What does your agency do when a pt changes insurance? Currently we DC the pt, then get a new order and restart them on homehealth- but sometimes there is a lag in that process and I am wondering if there is an easier way then getting new orders and restarting.

Seamless process in my prior agency where I was Central Intake Mgr reponsible for insurance verification. As soon as new insurance identified, would set up new episode in our EMR: to start as soon as first day new insurance or first available skilled visit post insurance start. Your delay might be due to required insurance preauth-- with online insurance programs, this was no longer an issue by 2015 for my staff. I'd call+ fax "change of insurance" notification to PCP requesting to continue homecare day new policy verified for signature of verbal order.
