How hard of a transition do you think it might be to move from an adult ICU to a PICU? I'd really like to work with kids, but never have- or would it just be an impossible hurdle.....Thanks.

I used to work with critical care adults, now, give me a kiddo in the PICU and I'm loving it!
You can do it, just need to have the desire

I've done 15 years as an "adult" nurse. Changed to peds 5 years ago. It only took the desire to learn: the geek gene to constantly carry a calculator, the pucker factor if your dose is larger than 3cc's, and a thorough understanding that yes Sponge Bob lives in under the sea! * Go for it, it is woth it, your back will thank you too!*

I love working in peds. I wouldn't trade my job for anything. I like to think it keeps me young.
Thanks for all the info. I know it would be a learning curve, but I'm willing to do the work.

i love working with the kiddies now. switched from adult acute med to peds acute med. its not the same thing as transitioning from adult critical care..but in my opinion it was worth it. i could never go back to adults now! lol.

I have just changed from adult to paeds as part of my grad rotation. I feel a bit like a fish out of water; I am in isolated paediatrics, but I am enjoying it.
