Anyone know about online MSN degree at Chamberlain?

Nursing Students Chamberlain College

Updated:   Published

I'm graduating with my BSN from a traditional university and want to find a good online option for my MSN, but I don't want to waste money or time. I'm interested in Chamberlain, but skeptical. Every school seems as though they want you to jump through hoops to apply with exams, interviews, essays, references, etc. Chamberlain seems almost too accomodating and eager to have me. Any advice?

Is your plan to be an online teacher full-time? or are you doing it in addition to bedside?

I taught an online MSN with a professor from Chamberlain for my practicum. Super great experience! Loved it!

Hi amm and Dana, I have been attending Chamberlain for a about 2.5 years and I definitely would seek out other programs. They have been ok throughout my BSN Completion, but the Masters FNP program is a scam. They are more than willing to take your money and are very eager to help you enroll and get started, but BEWARE!! There is zero assistance with clinical sites and from what I've been told from a few hospitals is that they have been desperately trying to negotiate contracts to get their students linked with them for clinicals, but none want to. I have had much difficulty finding any clinicals and once I did secure one, my Chamberlain coordinator did not get in the appropriate paperwork to them, so I lost my site and clinical. I've since transferred to a "Reputable" school that places you in clinical sites and I'm getting a great education and will have many more Job opportunities! My advice would be to look elsewhere. If you don't secure a site that they approve, and one that will take Chamberlain students, then you sit out for that semester and graduating is postponed

Unfortunately this is the same case in most FNP programs, not just Chamberlain. I am glad you found a program to suit you! Which school did you choose?

I will say that several friends have completed the FNP program at Chamberlain and are now working as NPs in various settings. They had clinical sites figured out prior to starting, though.

I am teaching online in addition to working in the hospital. Plan to go on for DNP. My hospital is union. They pay for my education which is a positive "perk" :)

Beth 2511, I found Chamberlain very accommodating for my MSN in education. I know many schools, not just Chamberlain have problems with clinical sites for FNP.

Graduated from this program with an MSN FNP. Loved it. Great program. What you put into it is what you get out of it. Highly recommended.

Do you mind sharing hows the pay teaching online, is it per course, per hour or salary? how long was msn education program when you did it? thanks

For the online visiting professors, they pay a sum per credit hour, and we are paid every two weeks. I teach a four-credit class, which is nice! But I'd have to teach three classes to make what I make as a hospital-based educator, though I believe Chamberlain's pay is very competitive, from what I've seen elsewhere.

Thanks for the respond. How much time do you spend in teaching a class? Whats the average pay per class? Is it competitive enough in relative to hospital pay? I just want to understand is it doable working with FT or prt time in the hosp, family tim and teaching.

As I said, I'd have to teach triple my current load to make what I make in the hospital, and I already spend probably 15-20 hours per week on my one class. I work 40+ hours/week in the hospital, teach, am a DNP student, and I have a one-year-old and a husband. They mentioned me teaching a second class, but I am declining that at the moment with my very full plate.

To teach with Chamberlain, you'd need an MSN or DNP and online teaching experience. Or if you do the nurse educator MSN through Chamberlain, they have a very selective residency program for new nurse educators - but it's only for Chamberlain MSN grads.

As Pixie R.N. said they pay a lump sum per credit hour and competitive. It is not comparable to hospital pay at all. I make very good money working in the hospital, and could not live on an educators salary alone teaching online. I spend 20-25 hours a week at least, but love it!
