CGFNS versus CVS for New York State

Published

Hey everyone,

I have been an RN in Europe for 5 years and I am looking into possibilities to eventually be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN. My boyfriend lives in Washington,DC so that's where I eventually would like to work. Virginia requires the CGFNS for internationally trained nurses and I know it's a long process to get where I want to go...I was looking into the requirements for New York State too...The CGFNS is not required there. Has anyone experience doing all this through New York State? What would you guys suggest??

Thank you very much!!

New York do CVS which can take longer than other states. Quick glance shows CES is what they, Virginia, are after and most states require this and seeing as you will be affected by retrogression making initial application to the state you want to work will give you time to study for NCLEX

does anyone know how long it takes for the New York BON to get back with you once CGFNS sends your papers to the BON?

as I stated before I am thinking of trying to get a licence in New York as this seems to be faster than doing the CGFNS route. I would like to work in Virginia though and I am not sure if I would be eligible to be licenced by endorsement there or would I have to take the CGFNS for Virginia even if I pass the NCLEX-RN and get a licence for NY?does anybody know?

thank you so much...

You really need to contact the BON and ask them however CES (if that is required) takes approx 4-6 months where as CVS takes between 6-12 months
