I am considering transfering to another ICU in my facility. There are many reasons why, one of them also being to see how other units are doing things.
I am currently a CICU nurse (all medical patients, no surgical ones).... which of these do you think would be good for prepping for CRNA school?
CVICU
Surgical/Trauma ICU
Neuro ICU
Medical ICU
PICU
NICU
ER but stay perdiem in my CICU
or
PACU and stay perdiem in my CICU
This is a large teaching hospital so tons of sick patients, invasive stuff, etc, etc.
The other thing I was considering was doing travel nursing, but I am still not sure about that.. the whole lack of health insurance in between assignments kinda scares me...

CVICU, S/TICU, Neuro ICU...all great choices.
Travel nursing is a great experience. Do it while you are young and energetic. Going into a new environment every 3-6 months is challenging. You can get your own health insurance policy. Then you won't have the lapse in coverage. Negotiate with the travel companies to reimburse you for the cost.

Hmm, interesting.. thanks for the replies.
I am leaning more towards either CVICU or STICU. It does seem as though CVICU would be an easier transition given my CICU experience... and I have been floated there are few times... (took their chronics of course), but it seemed like a nice unit... still debating though........
Traveling still is an idea I may go for... I didn't even think of getting my own insurance.. that may work........
Too many decisions.... we'll see...
Thanks again for your input

Go for SICU. CVICU would be fine too, but you might benefit from taking care of more than cardiac patients. A good trauma/surgical ICU would be an excellent place to see more and learn new skills...just my opinion. I agree that Travel nursing is great to see how things are done in different places, but from my own experience, you will rarely get to care for the sickest patients in the unit and therefor may miss out on some valuable experience. On the other hand, if you want to see the country...go for it!

They would all most likely be acceptable choices. Go with the one that most interests you.
