Question for Frontier students

Hi, I applied for the class 64 ADN-MSN bridge. I'm still waiting to hear if I got accepted or not, but I have a question. Since Frontier has started the Angel testing system, are they still doing as many proctored pencil and paper exams? It would be nice to test in the privacy and comfort of my home when possible!

Also, I wondered if anyone would be willing to share a little bit of info on the following: what happens at Frontier Bound, Is is difficult finding a preceptor and does Frontier help with this if you run into problems, for bridge students-when are you actually required to have a preceptor agreement in place?

Congratulations on taking the plunge and applying for Frontier. I think you will love the school. I am a current student in the CNEP (CNM) program.

In response to some of you questions:

- It is my understand that ALL tests (except the Comps---at the end of all classes) are online (on Angel). Therefore there is no longer a need for proctors.

-I went to FB (Frontier Bound) knowing no one and nothing about the school (really!). I left with a deep sense of empowerment and passion. I was so proud to be a part of such a remarkable school. It was wonderful to meet your classmates and staff. I don't want to give away too much, but know that you will be in good hands. The week goes by WAY too fast.

- The school assists students with finding preceptors. They give you a list of preceptors that have been used in the past in your area (zip code). There are also FSMFN grads all over the country, a number that grows every week. Those are also people you can ask. I am not certain when the bridge students are required to find a preceptor. For teh BSN students it was the expectation that students identified their preceptor no later than two months after they attended FB (either part-time or full-time).

What happens at Frontier Bound stays at Frontier Bound LOL - it is a great experience and so personal I found it difficult to even share with my spouse!

RiverRunner: I am applying for the FNP program. Can you give me any hints on what to focus on re: the portfolio? I plan to incorporate my experience as an ER, psych and hospice nurse along with a couple nurse theorists who I enjoy.

As far as the portfolio goes, just answer the questions and make sure if they ask for 3 examples, you give 3 examples. Each question is very specific on what they want/need you to answer. Make sure you stay focused on the question and you don't stray off another direction. Use all experience whether or not it was nursing experience to answer the questions. I was a manager in my previous non-nursing life..... so even though it's not nursing related, it was a management and leadership roles that I've had in the past.

Mine was 18 pages long when it was all said and done (double space, APA format). It took me several weeks but I didn't work on it all the time. I would answer a questions every couple of days until I finished it.

I must've done OK because I was accepted into the program :yeah:

Hi!

I am wondering how far the school is from the airport. I can't read a map and get lost in my own town. I'm applying soon and am taking the stats course as a non-matriculated student. This is a bit scary, but from what I've read, this school sounds to be an excellent and supportive one!

I opted to take the shuttle (which ended up being a school bus driven by the sweetest guy anyone could meet) which took us about 2.5 hours to get to the school. I totally recommend doing that, since you won't have to worry about maps (it looked kind of complicated) and it was a great way to meet some of our fellow students before getting to school. I think it cost $75 roundtrip, which is a lot cheaper than renting a car for 5 days, and also it didn't seem like the school had a ton of parking...
