Hi nicuguy,

Congrats on your acceptance! I'm in CNEP 113. I've heard of male CNMs but have never met one or an aspiring one. I'd love to hear what drew you to the field. And what has your experience been so far as an aspiring male midwife?

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

I worked with a male L&D nurse at my old hospital. He was great! There are plenty of male OBs, why not male labor nurses and Midwives? I applied to Class 118, have yet to hear.

I've been interested in OB and midwifery for a while and for the most part my experience has been pretty positive. I work very closely with some midwives and aspiring midwives who have been very supportive. There are always those who don't understand or think it's strange, but they don't matter. I've spent an inordinate amount of time in the delivery room and have been a CLC for 4 years now, so in my head the transition to caring for the mother before and during pregnancy/labor is not as large as someone who has never worked in maternal-child health.

That's really great nicuguy! I think it's really refreshing to hear about a man being passionate about midwifery. And it does sound like you have some wonderful experience. The US needs more midwives-period. Sex doesn't matter. Congrats on your acceptance! I'm so happy to be a part of Frontier- it's a wonderful program.

Good luck to you other applicants as well!

I received my acceptance e-mail today for CFNP class 116. I'm excited about this new chapter in my life.
