At Frontier Bound (right now!)

Just wanted to let all Frontier hopefuls that I am at FB right now (class 63) and it is awesome! I had been doubting myself a bit and was kind of at a low point when I got here and I feel so energized being able to be around so many people who have the same vision for healthcare that I do, not just the other midwife hopefuls, but the FNPs and the (one) WHCNP student. It is an amazing experience and unlike anything you probably have experienced before in school. Keep going, I am so excited for our profession and what we can accomplish together. To anyone doubting themselves about how they are going to make this work in their life, Frontier helps you make it work, they actually want you to succeed because they are truly committed to getting CNMs and NPs in the workforce where we are needed.

I'm glad to hear that you're having such a wonderful experience!

I am now beginning to doubt my decision to start in the WHNP program through University of Cincinnati next spring. Anyone out there have any advice? Thanks!

Well, I debated my options as well. I had been accepted to several programs including Cincinnati, but something about Frontier kept calling to me. I talked with a bunch of CNM's around my area. They kind of steared me to Frontier (even though they didn't go there) because of the rich history and the reputation of the school. I start at Frontier in January (Frontier Bound in December) and couldn't be happier or more at peace with my decision. I think you need to go with your gut on this and do what your heart says. Have you applied to Frontier?

No, I haven't applied yet, and yes I keep coming back to the Frontier website. I did find a graduate that I know personally who attended there and graduated in 2007, she had nothing but wonderful things to say about the school and the instructors. Personally, when I compare the two programs, I think that to have the Clinical Bound portion is something that should be required prior to starting a practicum.

That's exactly what I did. I thought I had made a decision about school and then I kept looking at the Frontier site. I kept having second thoughts about school and didn't know what to do. I finally applied to Frontier last spring and have never l looked back. Part of the decision for me (in addition to the wonderful things I heard about the school and the rich history) was when the US News and World Report grad school rankings came out--it sort of clinched the deal (not that rankings are really that important in the end). Frontier had a really good ranking and reviews (higher than the other schools I was considering).

I agree that Clinical Bound sounds amazing and I've heard wonderful things about it.

I know that you have a tough decision to make! Good luck. Again, the only advice I can offer is to follow your heart.

Rachel---any updates on how Bound went? I (and I'm sure many others) can't wait to hear! I got info today for Class 64, so it feels real now! I have my plane ticket booked, my laptop purchased and I'm ready to go!!

Other than Wide Neighborhoods, is there anything else I can start reading??

Have you made it home from Bound? We are all anxiously awaiting your input! I am still trying to make my decision between UC and Frontier, so any input is appreciated!

If you're still thinking about applying to Frontier, I know that there are a few weeks left before the deadline for winter applications (December Bound and classes start in early January)! There are a few of us on here that will be there! Maybe we'll get to see you there

Yes, I'm still considering Frontier. I have contacted via email and we are supposed to talk Monday evening....I just have some questions....You know, I almost never have this kind of problem making a decision about anything!

It's a big decision! You're wise to consider all of your options carefully. Hopefully, once you make a decision, you won't have regrets. That's where I am right now with my choice on Frontier.

Good luck and keep us posted on your decision process!!
