Hi everyone!

My certification will be expiring soon and I have not gotten any work yet. Because I am a full time student, and work full time but I don't want to give up my current job just yet because I get school reimbursement for my classes. So I was wondering if I picked up a volunteer job, if that would count towards my CNA hours worked? And if I could get a letter of recommendation from my director, as I do also work in a hospital but I do not do any nursing skills at my position.

I'm not sure if it is different in each state, but for Oregon the guidelines specify paid employment.

I'm pretty sure it has to be paid employment. Usually, as little as 8 hours is enough. Sign up with a home care agency. The hours are more flexible, you can work just 2hours at a time or a weekend or holiday to get the hours in. You may find you can take one client working a 2 hour shift on a weekend until you get the required hours in.

You should really check with your state and see what is required.
