My fiance is a newer nurse (has been on a tele floor for 4 mos now) and is currently looking for a job in the central ohio vicinity. I have received a job near the airport, and now we are looking to move him here as well. The problem is that his current job had a $3000 sign-on bonus and we can't find any hospitals in the central ohio area that offer something similar. We need that bonus but what other hospitals off that in Ohio?
So my questions include:
what are the hospitals in the Columbus and surrouding areas (Mansfield, Ashland, Lancaster, Newark, or in Cols) offering?
What are the wages in general?
Shift differentials?
Sign on bonuses?
Thank you to anyone who can offer any information!!

Hi! my recc. is to go to the Columbus dispatch website and view their classifieds... they usually have about 2 or 3 pages of RN adds. I lived there for 2years (wasn't a nurse at the time). I worked as an EMT while there - and LOVED Riverside hospital... you can check them out online.. they've always have plenty of job openings; great work environment too. They are associated with some other Columbus Hospitals - check out ohiohealth.com. Ohio State University East Hospital is probably closest to Port Columbus - ok hospital; but the University pay is not the best. if you have any more questions... feel free to ask!! Where are you planning on living? i wouldn't reccomend the east side....

While questions are being answered, please advise me as to the safest facility in Columbus area. I hear so much talk regarding how dangerous it is to work in Columbus. Please advise.
northwest columbus is the safest... upper arlington, clintonville, grandview, dublin, deleware (county just north of franklin). I would stay away from the east side of columbus if you can help it. i lived in upper arlington for two years and never felt "unsafe". I had my car broken into once - but it was on campus... actually, it was a jeep wrangler in the summertime... top down.....my fault! anyway - hope this helps! the west side is pretty safe too but slowly becoming not AS safe as before... (ie hillard area). if you have any other questions.. please let me know :)

I just interviewed with OSU hospitals for an internship position, they offer a $3000 sign on bonus with 2 years commitment pay is 21.34/hr with $5 nights and $5 weekend differential. am not sure how this compares to other hospitals in the area but that is what they quoted me for an associate degree RN. Anyone else know if this is bad or good?

I actually work at MedCentral in Mansfield, and have enjoyed it so far. We are in desperate need of nurses too!!!
The base rate right now for new grads is 19.95/hour with an extra 0.25 for BSN, and 3.00 for nights (3p-7a), you get a weekend bonus too, but I can't remember how much it is. They were doing an educational stipend for new grads, so he might be able to get that. The educational stipend was 500 up front and 3,500 after you have worked there 12 months.
I have heard horror stories about OSU, Ashland and Marion, but I have heard decent things about Riverside.
