Central Florida hospitals

Published

I posted a thread about Ocala hospitals and no one has responded. Let me enlarge that area that I would consider.

Is there anyone out there who works in a CENTRAL FLORIDA hospital? Let's add Greater Orlando, Leesburg area, Ocala, and Gainesville. I am considering that central corridor that runs north to south through the center of the state. I ahve some flexibility but I would want to be fairly near Ocala (or be able to commute there.

I have just been filling out the paperwork for a Florida nursing license. I have never seen such a lot of paperwork and hoops to jump through!

Thanks, everyone.

I've heard good things about Florida Hospital in Orlando, I'm sure they have a website. But I live on the coast on not in the area you describe.

Good luck.

I started working for Florida Hospital in Janurary. They so far have been excellent to work for. I also work at Halifax in Daytona Beach and have worked there for 12 years. Comparing the two, I would have to say that the educational opportunities are far greater at Florida Hospital and I am much happier at FH. There are seven different hospitals as part of the Orlando division, so you can work in a big hospital environment, or work in a smaller hospital. I would stay away from Memorial Division of Florida Hospital, though. Run differently than Orlando division.

I work in Altamonte Springs, which is just outside of Orlando and part of Orlando division (and a little closer to my house) and eventually I would like to work in the main hospital in Orlando.

As a side note, Florida Hospital has their own college on the Orlando campus and will pay for your BSN.

I have a friend who started orientation the same time I did and had worked at Orlando Regional--says they are very disorganized and left after ORMC since she had family problemsanyway and wasn't happy there. She seems to like it much better at FH.

Hope this helps. :coollook:

I currently work at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial (in Orange City, about 40 miles north of Orlando). It is a pretty good hospital - low level trauma, no peds, no OB. I also worked at Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares - that is closer to where you are now in Ocala. It is a beautiful hospital & very well run. In the future I may return there because I really did like it. The reason I chose Fish Memorial over Waterman is the distance. Waterman is about 60 min away, Fish Memorial is 10-15 min & I got tired of driving an hour home after working for 12 or 13 hours. I've also heard good things about the hospitals in Ocala, as well as Leesburg & The Villages.

Hey Jennerizer, we're at the same hospital. :) I'm doing my clinicals there right now (orange city) and am going to be working as a PCT until I graduate. Wonder if we've crossed paths.

It all comes down to how far you want to drive, is this daily commute or pop over on the days off? What field of nursing? Tampa area is closer to Ocala than Orlando area. Are you seeking placement or willing to come down as a traveler?

I have worked in many central FL hospitals, glad to help, but need more info from you.

I need a permanent job: preferably in L&D (materal/child health). I have sent you a private message. Thanks.

I worked at Florida Hospital Waterman while I was in nursing school and it was a very nice hospital. They seemed to treat their employees pretty well there. I have finished nursing school and took a position at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City. This is a nice hospital as well, as long as you don't want to work in the E.R. They are really desperate in the ER and it is run very poorly!!

Would you recommend working at ORH or FH? I am new to the Orlando area.

I just accepted a position as an RN at FH Fish memorial...I start orientation on 12/12/11

stay away from gainesville, esp hca on newberry ots poorly run, nurses pt ratio on tele is 12:1, med surg is 16:1, shands is no better and pay sucks medsurg is 8-10:1, tele 6-8:1, l&D you have to know someone to get in there, i used to work at munroe back in 2000-2005 when i was in traumatic car accident and was out for 1 year recouping i loved it there. i was on icu stepdown, great pay and clinical ladder back then. hope it helps
