Cell Phones in the work place

with the advanced technology everyday its always advancing.. i have noticed the past 2 times i visited the hospital. the last 2 times i had a hospital trip i had noticed that both physicians had pulled out their pda's to verify the side effects of meds that were prescribed to me. i was a bit worried knowing that once i asked what the side effects were (for a drug i wasn't familiar with) they seemed to not have not known at the top of their head and relied on their cell phones. i know i should not have been worried since they atleast double checked the correct information but it would have put me more at ease also knowing that the dr would have seemed to be knowledgeable themselves.

please let me know if i am just worried or that times have just changed.. haha:eek::eek:

Well, .......I'm a HH RN and unfortunately meds were very hard for me in school (remembering side effects, ya-da, ya-da) and I have the advantage of being able to carry a med book in my bag thank goodness, BUT yeh I feel bad having to pull it out in front of patients sometimes.....

...you do what you have to do I guess.

I would rather they pull out their reference and check things than to fly off their memory and make an important error at my expense. But then, I understand that healthcare workers can't be expected to have everything memorized. It might not look very good to the inexperienced. That is why one should make an attempt to explain what is going on. When I look something up in front of a client, I always inform them why I'm doing that. Nobody has ever criticized me to my face for it.

i guess no matter what it IS better safe than sorry.. i guess from being in school working in a clinical setting from not seeing that to seeing the drs pull out their pdas it was just new to me.
