New Grad CVU/ICU advice!

Hello all! I just got my first nursing job in the CVU/ICU! Any words of wisdom from experienced ICU nurses out there?

hI, to the individual who grad new and got job in ICU...r u by any chance in NJ?

Words of wisdom from the ED:

- Try to understand our role and treat us as colleagues and team members rather than intruders and interlopers.

- Our time is valuable... as is yours -- learn to take a concise report that addresses what really needs to be addressed... if at all possible, glance through the EMR once you know a patient will be coming your way.

- Understand that we face some of the same challenges that you do... but some rather unique ones as well.

- Don't forget that while we do take care of drips and vents, we're *not* ICU nurses and we're not working in an ICU... so try to understand that we can't always meet the same level of fastidiousness that y'all can and can't always recite vent settings to the decimal and aren't as adept at the fine art of titrating as y'all... we're not hacks, we're just working at a different part of the care continuum.

- If you ever have the chance to float to the ED, go for it.

Congratuations and much success... don't forget, we're all working toward the same goal.

Thank you everyone for the words of kindness, wisdom, and advice. I really, really appreciate it! I know I have a ton to learn! But I will remember all you said!! And I'm a new grad in PA for whoever was asking :)
