CCAC Boyce Campus Review

Well............let's see ------ I currently attend CCAC Boyce Campus. I am going to try and write an unbiased review with some key points.

SNAFU would be the first thing I can think of to describe this program.

In Nursing 101, we started out with roughly 146 students, we ended the semester with about 68 or so.

Currently, the majority of the class has a 72%, which is a D and failing.

We are given slides and materials to study, along with the textbooks, and the test is a poorly written instructor version.

In Nursing 101, we had multiple clinical instructors whom would let their students leave after 4-5 hours, instead of the required 8 hours.

Now, in 202. A majority of the class does not know how to perform basic 101 skills.

We enjoyed going to a whole semester of Assessment lab, where we never got to perform any assessments.

The best part is the slides. Often times you will get on slide---------say on Parkinson's from the Book manufacture and another set of slides put together by the instructors..... It is pretty bad when the book slides say NOT to use antihistamines with a drug--------and then you look at the CCAC slides and they say to administer antihistamines with the same drug.

Well, last week there was a mini-talk with the faculty about questions and concerns.....

This was nothing more than some damage control. Many students get spoken to in a condescending manor from the nursing faculty.

The INSTRUCTOR loves to give remediations for being 1 minute late to class, yet LACKS professional leadership that she harps on us about. You can enjoy trying to talk with her while she text's whomever in the middle of the nursing station. You will get many eye rolls and be talked to in a manner as if you were 5 years old. And better yet------- you can be made to look like a moron in front of patients so she can show off her far superior intellect.

I can go on, but this is enough for now.

Just thought I would amend your previous enlightening post.

We can't forget the awesome organization/preparation skills our school provides us. Examples such as the instructors not having class rosters the first night of clinicals, skills labs with incorrect equipment for the nights skill, oh and the most insightful one of all...the huge screw up with lab fees in financial aid which prohibits us from viewing any of our grades until we pay $32-$64 for a screw up that was not our fault!

They truly are teaching us to lead by example! And what an example it is!

Just think, soon we will graduate and be employed among other nurses who graduated from private colleges and universities, and when we can't prioritize and we are unprepared for our shift, we can stand up proudly and say " I WENT TO CCAC BOYCE!"

Bagle, did you mean to say that you're in 102? 202 isn't offered during the summer. I wish it were so I could be done sooner! I'm in the day program and had 102 last spring. The things going on in your class are the same things that happened in mine.

Yikes.

I didn't have these problems at Boyce. I just graduated in May and got As and Bs throughout my nursing courses. I liked the program overall, with the exception of one really condescending instructor that drove me mad. All of my clinicals lasted the full day, too. I'm sorry you're having such a crummy experience. I felt that the program got better in the second year, but only because the work was more challenging and I felt like I learned a ton.

I'll admit, there were times things seemed a little disorganized, but usually things fell into place.

Sadly, I have to agree with everything. From the disorganization, condescending instructors, variances in clinical and the differences in material taught or allegedly taught.

In my class, we actually challenged many of our exams, they were rife with errors. Do not take anything at face value with this campus, check it twice and verify it. It is disappointing because the program has the potential, it lacks direction or better yet accountability. Yes, the onus is firmly on the student and some of the faculty will take great strides to avoid any responsibility.

There is no professionalism, it is assumed that a title or a couple of letters after a name means it is a given, it is not. There are exceptions of course, there are some wonderful instructors that truly care for the students. Then there are those that are simply collecting a paycheck.

Bottom line, it is not the worst, not the best (I don't think that exists at CCAC). Have a high tolerance for BS, a low expectation of compassion and you will be fine going here.

The nursing instructors are very rude, non caring. I would not recommend that college to anyone especially boyce campus

I couldn't have said it better! The instructors are rude and unprepared. One instructor was putting down a student in front of a patient and nurses at a clinical site for asking too many questions. We are students! We're supposed to ask questions! Thats why you are getting paid to be our instuctors!!!
