My uncle spent a week in the hospital after having a kyphoplasty and developed huge fluid filled blisters that go across the top the entire width of both feet right below the toes and are raised about 3.5 cm. I've been a nurse on a med/surg floor for a short time, and I've never seen anything like this. I'm trying to figure out what caused it. Could it be a reaction to the non-skid socks or to an antibiotic, or possibly trauma when he was positioned for his kyphoplasty surgery? The hospital nurses that cared for him and his home health nurse recommend to leave them alone rather than draining them. Any idea what could have caused this? Thank you :)

My guess is that he developed edema in his legs, and the fluid seeped out of the tissue into blisters. I would not drain the blisters, try to keep them intact for as long as possible.

I am sorry that your uncle is experiencing such problems, but unfortunately without actually assessing the blisters and wounds it would be very difficult for any of our members to comment accurately about what could have caused this.
This is a conversation you should have with the health care professionals looking after him.
