Cath Lab governing/unifying body?

I work in Australia in a cath lab that does cardiac, neuro and vascular interventions, and in Australia there is no "governing body", or organisation that unifies the cath labs.

Other departments within medicine and nursing have organisations that unify them all, such as paediatric associations. This means that when we want a protocol written up, there is nothing universal to base our research or protocol on besides journal articles. I have noted that overseas there doesn't seem to be an organisation that ties us cath labs together either.

Most importantly, it also means that each cath lab has different procedures for sheath removal, whether to use sandbags or not, no universal "best practice" protocols. It would be nice if there was an organisation that enabled us to come together and develop these protocols, share ideas, advance together.

Before I start speaking to other cath labs about the creation of a nurse group or something for cath labs, with the potential to start something more, I just want to double check that there is no cath lab organisations that exist world wide?

I hope this post has made some sense - I'm home sick today and I think my brain may have jumped in with the day off!

US-based, but you will at least have a resource for standards of practice for this specialty (Cath Lab included under their umbrella).

In the US there are governing bodies that provide guidelines for cath Labs. the first is the ACC/AHA Guidelines on Cardiac Catheterization ACC/AHA guidelines for cardiac catheterization and cardiac catheterization laboratories. American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Ad Hoc Task Force on Cardiac Catheterization.

Second ACC/AHA Guidelines on PCI ACC/AHA Guidelines for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (Revision of the 1993 PTCA Guidelines)â€"Executive Summary

Third the SCAI/SICP Guidelines ]Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions/Society of Invasive Cardiovascular

Professionals SCA&I/SICP Combined Task Force Report

I hope this helps,
