What is the rule of thumb for carrying a client over 35lb up and down stairs twice a day? My concern is of course taking the wrong step and falling with the client.

I would not do it. Is this actually necessary? This was done in a patient setting I encountered and then an alternative situation was instituted. See if an alternative location solution can be implemented. It only takes one incident where your ankle turns and both of you go tumbling down the stairs, for all to see that this was not a good idea. Then the alternative situation will come about quickly.

Don't do it!! If your agency hasn't prohibited that kind of expectation, they're not protecting you or your patient. Your liability is so high here as not to be believed!
