Has anyone ever had or know of someone who had carpal tunnel syndrome resolve without surgery, with just therapy and splints? Just wondering if surgery is the norm for treatment or not?

I had carpal tunnel syndrome. I was told by 2 ortho guys that if you dont respond to cortisone injections, surgery is most likely the only way to get relief. It just depends on how bad it hurts, I guess? (meaning if you want the surgery, or you can deal with the discomfort) I opted for the surgery, as my hands were constantly numb, and the only relief I got was to hold my arm up, like I was in class raising my hand!!! It also came on very quickly for me. It was literally 3 months from symptom onset to surgery. I did try splints and PT for a little while before deciding on surgery. No relief.
How bad is it bothering you ? Bil?

I had carpal tunnel as a result of flute playing. With cortisone injections, PT, ultrasound, splints and rest! I got lucky though and still take it easy and pay careful attention to body mechanics. Now if only they had better treatments for cubital tunnel syndrome! Good luck!
Thanks, Pixie!
