It's coming time to apply for my license and I'm aware there is a very real possibility of getting probation here in CA due to a DUI on my record. My question is, if I do get stuck in that situation, and somehow make it through will I always have to settle for less desirable jobs, or is it realistic to move into acute care at that point? thanks in advance

Stay strong. You definitely will not have to settle. Just don’t give up! Once I got into my monitoring program I started apply at 5-10 jobs daily. I interviewed at many places and did get turned down at many. I have my past of stealing large amounts of narcotics on my license forever. I kept trying and I had HR call me from a job I REALLY wanted. She said she saw what was on my record but wanted me to explain. I told the truth which was so hard I expected complete silence but she called me the next day that I got the job and I’m in love with it it’s betterthan my last job.
My advice: be honest from the start! Everyone makes mistakes. The right job will see you for your skills and commitment not your past. Best of luck

Honestly I found the best nursing job while in recovery. You can do it!
