Cardiac Diet

Hi,

I am in a group w/ six other members in my nutrition class and we have been tasked among other things to write at least a 25 page paper on the Cardiac Diet. There is nothing in our book about ANY special diets and so far looking on the internet I have found the benefits of a Cardiac Diet and the risks of noncompliance, and for whom it is particularly important to follow. From what I've read it seems this type of diet is not only beneficial to those w/ heart issues, but recommended for all to maintain health. While this information is helpful, it is not enough for 25 pages. For those in the field could you elaborate on the Cardiac Diet perhaps provide more insight that I am missing?

TIA

How about the history of cardiac diets, the key points of the current diet and the advantages and disadvantages of each key point? And while you're at it, are there several "cardiac" diets out there, and if so, to which do you write to/refer??

I just googled "cardiac diet" and was rewarded with a whopping 6,350,000 sites (in 0.06 seconds!! ). Im sure you'll find something there! Try a search with the cluster feature of Vivisimo.com; it may cluster similar key points nicely for you.

good luck!

Agreed! Plus, might want to do a search for Heart Healthy Diet. I've always heard the phrases Heart Healthy Diet & Cardiac Diet interchangable.

The toughest part about writing a paper is the data research & collecting resources, rather than the actual rough draft.

Good luck!

I agree, there should be alot out there. There is also the DASH diet, here's a link: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/hbp/dash/

My dad went on this diet decades ago, and we think it really saved his life!

Also, dont forget caffeine! One thing I've learned at work is that patients placed on a cardiac diet (per hospital standards) are still given products with caffeine. So, we need to watch out for those in A.fib, for example, because drinking coffee would be a bit counterproductive. Am I correct on that? (I'm still really new).

Your library should also have journals for nutritionists and they should have some good articles about cardiac diets.
