Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) 2017 (ADN or LPN)

Published

Hello all!

So, it's getting closer to the time to apply!! I was just wondering if there was anyone on here that was applying to the ADN or LPN program at CFCC? Just thought it would be a good way to get through and pass the time while waiting to find out if we got in..

Hey Hopeful!

I plan on applying for the ADN program this year. I'm trying not to get my hopes up as I've noticed a lot of applicants already have all their non-nursing classes finished. They will have those points above me which means I'll have to max out my PSBs to be competitive. Unfortunately, the science portion is so foreign to me now that I'll be lucky if I even make cutoffs.

Do you have any of the general education classes done? I bought the PSB study guide to study some beforehand. I plan of applying to both the ADN and the LPN, so if I don't get into the ADN hopefully I'll get into the LPN, then I can do the bridge program. It's close to the same amount of time as the ADN program. I'm trying not to get my hopes up as well, but stay positive..

I have a B.S. in Psychology but only a few of my classes transferred. I'm going to see if I can argue a couple of them during my first meeting. For example, I already completed A&P I but it didn't carry over. Fingers crossed that works out because they only gave me three of the seven or so on the worksheet.

My problems aside... I think it is a great idea to apply for both programs. Have you also looked into the RIBN option? What about other schools? I know a lot of applicants apply to a couple different schools and it has worked out nicely for them.

Hopefully they'll let you transfer your A&P.. How long ago did you take it? I'm having to retake A&P I & II because it was older than 5 years when I took it. And I did look into the RIBN program, it just makes the cost a little more. So, since I'm having to pay for everything out of pocket I'm going this route. I don't know.. I'm just hoping I can get my foot in somewhere! lol

I took A&P I about two years ago. To be honest, I should probably retake it since it isn't as fresh as I would like it to be.

No FAFSA or student loans for you? cfcc.academicworks.com has a number of scholarships available for ADN students. Have you looked into any of them? What about NC endowments for women going back to school?

I'll definitely have to look into the scholarships. I really don't want to rack up anymore student loans if I can help it. But, we'll see... I'll do what I have to do to get it done.

I went to a PSB prep course on Saturday and learned that spelling no longer has a minimum score requirement. It still counts for points but you don't have to get 30th percentile. I also learned that 400+ people applied last year which means you need to strive for high 90s in all categories if you want to make the cutoff. Additionally, one person already filed her intent and said the first testing date was November 15th. Last but not least... wrong answers don't count against you so guess if nothing else.

Sounds like there was a lot of really good information at that session! I wish I would have known about it, I would have went. So, high 90s on all section to make the cutoff? No pressure right?! lol When are you thinking about filing your intent? I'm worried about filing too soon and then I won't be prepared for the PSB.. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

There is another class on the 29th from 9:00-1:00. It is at the cape fear literacy council and it costs $50. They hold two a month.

As for the intent to apply... I don't know. I wanted to go the first day but thought the school was closed (like UNCW). Part of me just wants to get it over with but then I found out the natural science portion is 90 questions long and I don't want to bomb it. The longer we wait, the closer the testing dates will get to the filing date. I'm still leaning towards filing soon since testing won't be until November and the cramming every waking second.

With that said, you might be overthinking it but then again it counts for 50% of your points so you shouldn't rush. Wait until you are ready.

Just wanted to say hello! I applied for the ADN fall 2017 at CFCC. Fortunately, I am able to carry over all my prerequisites that I completed at another school. PSB was a huge stresser for me... I filed an intent in late November (hope that doesn't hurt me too much....??) and was scheduled to take the test 3 weeks later and hadn't studied the info at all up until that point. Did you all manage to get through PSB testing? The Science was the worst for me... Was hoping it would be more A&P, Micro, etc. ... thought the physics, earth science, chem stuff was tough. And I ran out of time on that section... Stressful stuff. Glad its over lol

Now the point count and wait for acceptance letters...

Good luck to you!

Angela

Angela-

I put off my PSB testing until three days ago because of the science section. I don't know why I can't remember any of that information. In fact, I'm expecting an awful score in that area. Nonetheless, I timed out of the section that had the math but was able to finish the remaining four. I should get my scores in another 2-4 days. Best of luck come March/April!
