cant move a bed?

Published

hey guys, i am a nursing student and work at my hospital as a patient transport and a patient companion. i was at my transport job the other night and i have been doing this for almost 6months and always when i go into a new/clean room housekeeping ups the bed up as high as it goes and no patient is going to be able to hop up on it if they can walk. i had a patient that could walk with a little assistance (i dont get the patients up alone unless i know for sure that they can walk 100% without any issues). i told the nurse the patient was there and she said shed be down and i said ok, the patient still was on the liter and i just put all the patients belongings in the room. everytime the beds are up high or whatever when i get there i get the room all set up so the nurse and i can either walk the patient in or we can pull the liter in the room and pull the patient over to the bed. well the nurse came in who everytime i see her she is running around like a chicken with her head cut off, she came in and was like who lowered the bed?! and i said i did.

i dont understand why she seemed so ticked off about it, maybe it was just how she was for the day i dont know because the nurses always tell me to get the room set up while they come down to the room so it takes less time to get the patient in the room. i have been on that floor MANY of times and they all tell me to move/lower the bed

does anyone have any idea why she told me this?

Why don't you ask her yourself?

Just wondering Black Jade. I see that you joined in '05, and your stats say under "yrs. as a nurse" you wrote, "not enough". So, since then, have you aquired more experience? If so, maybe you should update that info? No biggy, just bringing it to your attention.:)

Kinda sounds like she may be one of those "control freaks" who like to bully the "new kid on the block". It happens unfortunately.

Specializes in Emergency.

Either it's some obscure hospital policy, she was having a bad day or like what Kim said, the nurse is a control freak.

I did patient transport for 3 years and have gotten flack for random things now and then that most wouldn't even bat an eye about.

Since you'll eventually have to encounter her again as a coworker, you might as well ask her how she likes to do things or if she was having a bad day. It makes future encounters much less.... awkward.
