Hello! I’m a foreign graduate, born and raised abroad. Only been here in USA for 4 years. I never practiced my homeland license as nurses there are underpayed. I passed NCLEXRN December of 2019, and worked as a home health nurse in a company which I was already with working as a quality assurance specialist for 2 years. I only have 1 year of home health experience and 1 year of infusion therapy experience (sidejob). I would like to ask for some help or assistance or advice to transition to acute care hospital job here in Ventura.

California is a notoriously tight job market. Try leveraging your side job by looking for a position in an infusion clinic that is owned by/connected to the hospital. Once you are in their system as an employee you'll have an advantage when hospital postings come up as most of them give preference to internal candidates before hiring from outside. Be prepared to give the job you took to get in the system a fair amount of time before looking at hospital postings though, you'll probably be required to work that position for at least 6 months and maybe a year before you'll be considered for internal transfers.

Thank you for your response. Last week I signed up with an infusion company as I’d like to hone my infusion therapy skills, I was surprised by your recommendation. It may not be connected to a hospital but I plan to apply at a SNF so I can get the experience before I apply to a hospital. Thank you again and God bless!

Hi! How did that work for you? I am about to take my NCLEX-RN in the state of Georgia as an international graduate, and I have already started to apply for jobs. I'm not sure if because I'm an international graduate I will be "looked down".
I have over 4 years of clinical and research experience, I hold a BSN and a MSN and have been accepted into a NP Program here. I just don't know if that's going to affect me in a negative way when applying for jobs or if they'll consider it a good thing...
How is your experience in this regard? Thanks!
