Hello,
I am an RN in Alberta with over 4 years thoracic surgery experience. My husband is transferring to Wellington through work and I am hoping to get a nursing job there. I have had difficulty in finding descriptions of what a RN does in the hospital setting and what a general day looks like for an RN. How does it compare to Canada. What kind of options are available outside of bedside nursing? Is there casual work there or is it all full time? What places in Wellington would be recommended?
Thank you!

Hey there
I have seen full time as well as part-time (0.9 and less) positions in Wellington as well as some casual positions. Most of the casual positions I have seen are for OR nurses though, but that could just be what I've seen.
Have you begun the process of obtaining your NZ nursing license yet? When do you plan on getting to NZ?
Oh wow! I wasn't expecting people to still reply. This is awesome. I am in the waiting phase where they have all my documents and are reviewing them. They just asked for my international criminal check so hopefully the end is finally in sight. I'm actually already in Wellington and creeping trade me job postings almost daily. I'm trying to make my cv as they seem to be done very differently here then back home. Do you guys have any advice for the application and onterview process? I'm actually hoping to step away from bedside for a bit as night shift work really took its toll on me.
Thank you you all so much!
I'm at the same stage of the process of as you, except they have my police check because I was eager and asked them if I could go ahead with it as soon as I saw they had all my documents haha.
I used my Canadian resume as is. I really just have my partners NZ resume to compare to and his is pretty similar to mine. I had volunteering on mine which he says people here don't usually put. He also has that skill summary section at the top ie. Case management experience. But people in Canada use that too I have always just chosen not to.
Any change in status on your application yet? I'm starting to get very antsy waiting as I have s job lined up.
