Canadian RN & clinical requirements for California BON

Published

Hello,

I have been planning on going to California for the last 6 years, I have literally done everything short of getting a job, including finishing school, doing my emergency specialty, passing the nclex, getting my license and my visa screen certificate. I have known about California's laws regarding nursing school clinical hours, however i was told the other day they require 135 hours in peds, maternity and psych... and according to my nursing school, i dont have that many hours. Im devistated!! I have heard of people being rejected before upon attempting to endorse to California for not having enough clinical hours.

Does anyone know if this information is correct? Is there ANY way around this? How strict are they? Is it worth attempting to endorse anyways and see what happens? Does anyone have any other information about this? I dont know what to do... any advise would help so much!

Thanks!

The BRN has been very strict this last 12 months or so. If it is their requirement then there is no way round it unless you do an approved course at an approved school. Only real way to find out is apply to the BRN and send your transcripts and see what they say
