Canadian PN exam

I thought those educated in Canada as RNs were ineligible for CRPNE?

No. I am in the process of submitting all my credentials now. I just spoke to registration. I'm not RN in Canada, I'm RN in the states. They have sent me all the required forms already. All they need is verification of employment and studies. No credentialing.

Weren't you educated as a BScN in Canada? While IENs can submit for both its been posted that most provinces won't consider BScN graduated for LPN/RPN

Yes. But they considered mine. I don't know. I called them few weeks ago because a friend insisted me to do it. I didn't even know it's not possible but she gave me the go signal. The registrar gave me all the forms. She is aware I was not successful as an RN in Canada.

Better to ask the moderators to move this to the Canadian nursing forum to get more targeted advice from Canadians. Not many Canadian RPN/LPN post here

I know of a few that did and passed PN exam and was cleared by college to do so after evaluating transcripts.

Hi there, in response to your question you want to start with first understanding the scope of practice of the RPN compared to the RN. They are very different. Even though RNs and RPNs learn from the same body of knowledge and are subject to the standards of practice equally, their scopes of practice are different.

I am not sure which province you will be writing in. So you want to contact the regulatory authority for the province you are writing in and learn about the RPN role and scope.

A great place you can start is the Canadian Council for Practical Nurse Regulators. Check the RESOURCE SECTION.

If you are coming to [ONTARIO], I would go to the College of Nurses website and download and read the Entry-to-Practice Competencies for both RNs and RPNs so you can make the distinction between both. Hope this helps. :)
