Student Clinical Placement and Employment as Hep.B Carrier

  1. Hello everyone,

I was recently offered to attend a fast-track nursing program (saskatchewan), after looking through all the information regarding immunization requirements I am now lost. Hep. B vaccination and Ab testing is a requirement for clinical placements. But as an Hep. B carrier, what do I do? I'm so lost, and if there is any information at all I would appreciate it. What are the employment policies like for carriers of this disease? Thank you.

In the good old US of A , federal guidelines, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, has laws against discrimination based on disabilities. Not that I think chronic hepatitis carriers are disabled!

I can't imagine any reason a nurse with any variety of hepatitis would be denied admission to a nursing program or a job. The patients bleed on the health care care workers don't bleed on the patients!

I would bet 1000's, if not more, people are chronic carriers of all the varieties of hepatitis. Many aren't even aware they have it.
