Hi, I'm taking the LPN to Rn program through Athabasca right now, I live in Calgary and completed my LPN through Columbia college, (the LPN program through Columbia college was 14months, I think they lowered it even more). After I graduated I did have to wait a year before being enrolled in the Bachelor program, what I didn't know was that I could still have been working on cluster A courses, which you can do without being in the program. If i did that I would be done my RN so much quicker. Cluster A courses mostly consist of non nursing courses.

Just google Athabasca and look at this forum. There is plenty of information on the programme.

I've worked in acute care for over a decade and never heard this. Everyone is different what you find stressful others may not.

It's great that you took the time to search out the info for another poster, but is spoonfeeding information really the correct approach?

If someone can use the internet to find allnurses, surely, they could manage to google Athabasca and dig up the info themselves.

It always scares me that these people want to be RNs and take so much responsibility for another human being when they are too lazy to do some basic research.

Hi BrittanyC, wondering how the program is treating you?

I am honestly thinking of taking the bscn through athabasca now due to some major mishaps from the school i was attending for an lpn access to bridge in Vancouver at VCC. Basically myself and several other LPNs from alberta were very unhappy with quitting their jobs to come out here and not find out until later that there is a waitlist until 2014-2015. Also my Anatomy and physiology credits were not recognized although they should have been since i have a bow valley diploma through the red deer college program. Things really change from province to province. Because of the huge misinformation to lpns from alberta and mis credits to each and every one of us, they have finally changed the site information after a very political and pathetic meeting with the head of department. VCC i found most unprofessional and misleading because of all the voices you speak to over the phone in admissions and in person. Anyways, Back to my main point... How far along are you and how do u find the program yourself? I hear it is much faster, one of my instructors recomended it.

I have just graduated as an RPN and I am looking into doing the Athabasca bridging course online. I was going to start doing the cluster A courses asap. How long would it take me to do this program?

Thanks!

Were you originally assessed by CARNA for RN and told you would need to do a bridging program? Did you receive a letter of direction advising you to take specific courses through Mount Royal College's bridging program?

@milan jimmy NNAS is for IENs who have not been assessed in the past, are you saying your education was only assessed for equivalence to PN not BSN in the past? Your starting point is to ask the regulatory body what steps you need to take in order to bridge to RN. You are wasting time and effort looking for a school that will accept non-Canadian educated PNs in their PN-BSN bridging program, if the regulatory body will not allow you to write the NCLEX or become licensed in the end.
