BCIT August 2012

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hello everyone,I wanted to start this forum because I'm getting nervouse about my application to the BSN program at Bcit. I appled for this August (2012) and I am still awaiting a reply. Has anyone else applied? I would love to hear about your application so I have something to compare myself against and could know ways to improve. Please let me know:)Cheers!

Wow.. you guys still haven't heard yet? You would think a week would be enough for them to send out the rest :3. Good luck to all of you that are still waiting!

I'm still waiting for a response from UBC..

Hey Pippa,

Yeah I am still waiting too. Trying to stay positive but am now considering plan B.... as soon as I know what that is. =)

dmak26,

Good luck in your application. I checked the site a few years ago, to enter into Nursing at UBC do you already have to have you Bachelor of Science?

Hey yohane! Don't worry about plan B too much, it may actually come naturally and you may enjoy it more than Bursing.

Nursing was actually my Plan b, but then I realised the job market for selling Plan b's (and other medications) is not so good at the moment.

After I got rejected after my UBC Pharmacy interview I decided to use Nursing as a backup.

I also believe I'll find Nursing more rewarding as I enjoy volunteering at the hospital more even though I get paid at the pharmacy.

I think for UBC you need 48+ credits minimum, I just barely scraped that so I'm not going to hold my breath or anything.

My preferred school is BCIT because it seems like it's a better fit, and ALOT closer.

Hi everyone,

Just checking in to say that I'm also still waiting to hear something. The email we got when we completed the application back in January said that they will be reviewing applications until Mar 31. Hopefully that means we will know one way or another by Friday. Fingers crossed!

Hi...I found out I was shortlisted on Mar 15th! So excited but also know that it doesn't mean I'm in...

I only have 58 transfer credits but Lot's and lot's of work and Vol experience (13 years work as a care-giver and 4000+ volunteer hours)...I don't know where this puts me in the competition :s

I have completed the additional suggested classes (Engl/ sociology and all anatomy physiology classes)

But what are these LIBS courses? If I do not make it in for Aug 2012 can I take these at BCIT?

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

on the link after they list all the specific levels there is a list of elective course that we have to take BCIT : : Nursing: Full-time, Bachelor of Science in Nursing

english

libs 7001 &7002

Psyc 1101 &1102

HMGT 7180 - though i think you need to be in the program to take this one

as well you need two 200 level LIBS electives

You may have done some of these in preparation to get into the program without knowing it.

But defiantly my plan if i don't get into for september to finish of these elective course so i don't need to do them one

summer.

And congrats on getting in i was also shortlisted on the 15th.

I got provisional acceptance today from BCIT! Dmak26 thanks for the encouragement. (I don't know about the whole alphabetical order thing because my last name starts with F). I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for you guys. =)

Pippa20: You can take HGMT 7180 before you get into nursing. I am taking it this semester. You have to meet one of the two prerequisites: 1. having a degree, 4 years formal education at post secondary or 2+ years experience working in healthcare setting. If you get the chance I recommend taking it when you can. It is a really interesting course and there is a lot to read. My class had 11 people, but in one week we had 121 posts online!

Yohane: Congrats for being provisionally accepted! I'm still waiting, but I was wondering if you meant that you were first shortlisted a long time ago, Then you received provisional acceptance today? or once you are shortlisted, they will change your status to "provisional acceptance"?

Thanks

Hi nurs9.

Since applying for the August intake I was not told that I was shortlisted. Since my original application the only communication I received was that I was provisionally accepted. I originally thought that people who were provisinally accepted would have been contacted earlier on, so I am not sure of the process. Hope that helps.

Thanks yohane! I was also just wondering, have you applied to BCIT's nursing program in prior cycles? if so, is that the reason why you did not have to re-submit references and your letter of intent, hence you didn't need to be shortlisted this time and they went directly from the application state to provisional acceptance instead?

Sorry for so many questions. I am just worried because it's my first time applying and I haven't heard anything from them yet since January I believe (after sending in my application).

My last name is also very close to the end of the alphabet (if they are in fact reviewing applications in order of our last names)

nurs9,

No problem if I can answer your questions I am more than happy to. This was my third attempt to enter into the program. The first time I had none of the Libs courses, english, Health Management, so I was rejected. The second time I had more courses under my belt, so I got to the point where I was shortlisted and then put on a wait list (the wait list is if a seat opens up, if you are first on the wait list you get the seat). I did not get into the Jan 2012 intake, however because I was shortlisted I sent my letter of intent as well as my two references. For the aug intake the Nursing department told me that since I got to a good level they would cover my application fee, and that I would not have to sbumit my information again as it is on file. When I reapplied I made sure to inform the Nursing department that I was taking courses in the semester. Also during the process I updated my grades via e-mail to ensure that they knew I will be passing them at least. If you have any other questions let me know. =)

Hey I'm still waiting too! This is soo nerve racking!

After browsing CNSA forums of previous intakes, I'm hoping those of us who are still waiting, it must be true that they're behind.

My lastname starts with M, and I just completed my BSc in Psychology. Not sure at what exactly BCIT really takes into consideration BUT I hope we --who are still waiting, get in!!!

I've also heard that they do send out rejections before shortlists....so I'm hoping that's the case!
