2014 Accelerated/2nd-Degree/Fast-Track

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hello all! I haven't been able to find this topic in any of the forums I've browsed - please post a link if I am wrong and I will delete this (and I apologize!) I have actually applied to numerous fast-track/accelerated nursing programs in Canada, primarily in Ontario as well as UBC and UA.

I notice that most Canadian accelerated nursing programs take your GPA for your most recent credits, in which I have approximately an ~3.4-3.5GPA (or A- = 83-84% Canadian percentile). However, my overall GPA is not very competitive - my question is, how much do they take cumulative GPA into consideration when reviewing applications?

If anyone could post average GPAs, when they heard back from universities (ie: UT, Mac, York, Western), volunteer experience, extracurricular - ANYTHING, I would be truly grateful. Now that applications have been submitted, I'm in that horrible waiting stage.

Hi there! Maybe this thread is what you're looking for: https://allnurses.com/canada-nursing-programs/second-entry-nursing-889594.html

I am in the exact same waiting stage, not fun at all. So far, I've applied to UOttawa and Western for their second entry programs, as well as the Lakehead Compressed program (3 years) as a backup. I have a completed bachelor's degree and a fairly good gpa (3.9 on the OMSAS scale, 86%). But, I know how competitive these programs are, so I'm nervous!

As for experience, I have done 7 years on and off as a recreation worker at a personal care home, I've done a high school credit internship at an emergency room, and I volunteered as a recruiter for Canadian Blood Services. But I didn't really come across a place in the application to really touch on these experiences, and I heard that it's all based on GPA pretty much.
