can i take the NCLEX without taking our Philippine Board??

Published

I have just graduated nursing course , the R.N. I am so puzzled if I still have to take our Philippine Board or can I go direct to U.S. and take the NCLEX. I am not yet a citizen or an immigrant, but I can visit the states anytime. Will they allow me to take the NCLEX? without having to take the CGFNS her in our country??and the Professional Nursing Board here? I hope somebody could help me out in this question. We are about 30 students who have kinda same question here. Thanks a lot in advance...

You should contact the Board of Registered Nursing in the state in which you wish to become a Registered Nurse. States vary in practice, but most do not now require CGFNS.

In most states, you will probably be asked to submit a formal application for a license (which may include taking NCLEX-RN (CAT). This is a long procedure, but the only certain way that an evaluation of your training and education can be completed with accuracy.

Just contact the BRN of your choice of state - there are links from this web site's home page.

In any case I would recommend that you take the State Board examination in the state/country in which you graduate. You may find it simplifies issues as you progress thru your careers.

Fifteen years ago I was a UK foreign graduate with years of experience and graduate education. I was required to take NCLEX and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Lanugage) prior to licensure, by the State of Illinois. Other states varied in their requirements at that time and they still do.

Good Luck.

thank you very much for that reply. Most of us newly graduates think we could just take NCLEX at U.S. But I had a lot of questions in my mind. I think you are right there..about having issues simplified. Its just that we are all in a hurry...you know..what I mean.

i'm also a graduated in the phillipines and you can take a nclex in USA even if you dont have a RN licensed in the phillipines. just pass the nclex and you can work anywhere you want. sila ang hahabol sa iyo dto sa america. ok goodluck!!!!!!!

Its really good to hear from someone who says..."its alright to take the NCLEX...without the Phil. Board...Thanks huh?!! You really made my day!!! I could'nt hardly wait to tell all my classmates bout this good news...Hope I could still get other opinions too.... Just for the sake of CHIKAHh!!

I believe you still have to pass TOEFL.

If you can get hold of a current copy of NurseWeek (dated April 7th, 2003) there is an article on just the sort of questions you are asking. It's called "Coming to America" by Heather World on page 26. The only web link posted is http://[email protected] (That's H underscore world- as it does not show when underlined).

Another method might be to sign up with one of the foreign recruiting travel nursing agencies. American Mobile Healthcare comes to mind as doing this sort of thing, although please check out the travel nurses' opinions on this company, as I know little about their operation except that they do recruit abroad from the USA and assist their people to get jobs, visas and NCLEX.

Good luck.

hello! i was so surprised when i read your reply to our kababayan, i'm a RN here in the Phil.. I applied for NCLEX exam there in California but it will take daw a year bago ka mabigyan ng ATT sa dami ng nag-aaply, i can go there anytime coz i've been traveling in the US as a tourist, what do you suggest? what if i re-apply sa New York? sabi nila may reciprocity daw ito sa california. I do hope to hear from you soon :rotfl:

Closing this thread as the information is old, and it is from two years ago.
