I am looking to teach myself medical terminology before starting nursing school and noticed there is a wide selection out there. Can anyone recommend a medical terminology book that is appropriate for a pre nurse teaching herself. Thanks

I read through a few older threads and someone suggested "Medical Terminology - The Language of Health Care" by Marjorie Canfield Willis. I got it on amazon for 9cents plus 3.99 for shipping.

I recommend taking a Medical Terminology course at your school. Assuming you study, it's a great way to boost your GPA. The textbook for the course I took was Medical Terminology for Health Professionals by Ehrlich and Schroeder.

Med Term is a required class at my school. I'm finishing it now. We're using Medical Terminology 2nd Edition by Marjorie Canfield Willis. The CD that comes with it is helpful for review.

I would first check the bookstore at your school and see what they have to offer. My A&P class required us to purchase a med. terminology book. I have found it to be very helpful. It is written in a very plain and straightforward manner. It has in book activities as well as a CD for online access to review material. It's called A Short Course in Medical Terminology, 2nd Edition. ISBN: 978-0-7817-9883-9
Thanks for the advise. I have been looking to take an actual class but there aren't very many options for me where I live. The school nearest me does not offer it and another school not too far isn't offering it in the fall. But there is a ROP course that is currently full but I am hoping someone drops. But if all else fails I am hoping to learn it on my own before nursing school starts for me in the Spring 2013.
