Please review your scope of practice for your state's nurse practice act. Just because someone else is doing it does not mean it is ok.

If you are looking for concrete proof, check your state's nurse practice act, in Missouri you can view it on the state board of nursing website, I'm sure your state will have it there as well.

Ditto. And check the written policy at your facility. If it contradicts the nurse practice act of your state, bring this to the attention of your DON.

I am in psych so we use these daily just about--though really not Valium IM-- and NONE IV as we don't have anyone on IVs for safety reasons-- but I really can't say as far as what LPNs can do as I have never worked with even one in the psych setting ---at my current hospital or the last-- only ever in medical. So sorry don't know. I know LPNs where I have worked with them can't PUSH anything IV. Only piggybacks. NEver gave much IM in medicine but always sticking needles in psych patients! Lots of IMs in psych!

Agree with all of thee above, pretty sure LPNs can give IMs in all states.
