Can I take Health Safety w/Excelsior before Licensure?

I just graduated LPN school this past week, what a stressful year! Anyway, I am planning to take boards sometime late Jan/Early Feb and get started officially with Excelsior asap. Is my understanding correct that I can take the first NC exam Health Safety without enrolling? Do I need my LPN license before taking it? Forgive me if this question has been answered elsewhere, but I just want to do this the correct way. If I can get an exam out of the way before licensure than that would be excellent. Thanks in advance.

You can take it now.

I would concentrate on passing NCLEX first, but you can probably knock this test out if you want to. Good luck.

i agree with caliotter! i asked the same question here when i was about to graduate lpn school 2 years ago and i am glad someone told me to focus on all my exit exams first then the nclex-pn.

obtain your lpn license first then you can take the first nursing exam. you do not need the lpn license or to enroll to take it. all you gotta do is create a profile and sign-up online for your screen name and password. the second exam will be waived for you since you are an lpn.

please do your research about excelsior college as there are several states with problems with ec or need you to jump extra hoops to get licensed in their state. good luck with finishing lpn school and the nlcex-pn.

thanks for clearing that up. yes i am definitely concentrating on the nclex and have already been heavily preparing over the last semester, i'm just waiting on a date. i live in florida and have researched excelsior extensively and my state only requires you to be an lpn before going through the program. thanks again!
