My dream is to become an RN. I was recently laid off and have put in for unemployment. My state will sometimes pay to retrain an unemployed person if said person can show that she cannot get a job in her field and/or if she has not be trained in another field. My field is sales/customer service and all I have is 2 years of college classes. I am set to see the rep from Unemployment where I will see if the state will pay for my LNA training, the first step I want to take in building a nursing career. After I get sign off from her, I meet with another rep to see if Unemployment will pay me my weekly benefit while I am in training. I have yet to even see my benefit-unemployment claims in my state take 6 weeks to process:(
That said, I hope to God that this works out. I am broke and cannot afford to take the LNA course or to take it instead of working. I would appreciate any well wishes with this....

Good luck! check with some of your local LTC facilities some offer free CNA training while you work for them.

Hi Bluemorningglory...
It can be done!! I am presently waiting on approval too from unemployment to see if they will pay for "part" of my tuituin (I live in NY they are NOT hardly paying for the whole tuition). I too was laid off after almost 20 years on a job this past December. I started taking some classes at our local CC. I am also exempt from looking for employment while in school. I am going the LPN route. I was actually just accepted into a vocational program last week. I'm really excited!!
Anyway, stay positive and don't give up!

Bluemorninglory, while I don't have any resources to offer, I do wish you all the best.
You seem determined and focused. Those qualities alone will take you far.
Sincerely,
Mary
