I'm just curious to know if it's possible to change army OBLC date? I just got sworn in last week and I received an email today stating that I have a reserve spot for the October class. That would've been fine but since I was not expecting to leave in October I have made no arrangements for storage, have not given my employer notice, or given my landlord notice, along with a few other things. My recruiter was positive that it was too late for October OBLC so I had it set that I wouldn't be leaving until January. Has anyone been successful in changing their OBLC date?

Sure its possible, but you still have over two weeks. Why be ate up and try to change the date, when with a little hard work and extra effort you can make it happen. Storage facilities are readily available, Soldier's & Sailor's Relief Act will cover your housing, and you can give your employer notice w/ plenty of time.
This is what I would say if you I was your branch manager, especially if you just swore in.

To put it all in perspective I did the following in 3 weeks about 4 years ago.
Decided to become a nurse
Put in my notice at work
Sold most of my furniture
Packed and cleaned the apartment
Sold my 6month old car for a decent price
acquired a student visa in a foreign country
made a cross country trip of a week from Florida, to UT, to NM, to CA
Flew 13,000 miles to my new temporary country
Found an apartment / enrolled in school
It can be done. Believe me.

Hi D,
Are you active or reserve? If you are active--I have no idea how it works to delay your OBLC. If you are reserve, you aren't doing anything without your papers. And that generally takes 2 months. Changing the class date is easy.
Who booked your class? It sounds like you are "active" if your recruiter "booked" your OBLC. Better call him (her).......
good luck
cindy :)
Older, I'll be going in active. I haven't received any formal paper work in the mail as yet but I'm happy to know that it's possible to change the date, which I will do. I'm not sure who choose the date, I'll speak to my recruiter later to find out what's going on. Thanks

Dee,
CONGRATS! When I first sent off my packet, I provided them with three different dates, one of which was for the August OBLC class. I got a phone call asking if I could attend the Aug. class and was unable to. I am heading to the Oct class but have yet to receive anything as well. From what I understand, you can still change your date. When I spoke with my career manager on the phone, she had asked me if I was still able to attend Oct's OBLC.
You might want to contact your recruiter to let him/her know that you are unable to attend. If you have mine, then good luck getting a return call/email.
Although, there is still time to get everything done. My employer will not accept a notice unless it is 8 weeks in advance, and I was not sure if I was in the Oct class so we are dealing with that. I really do not know when paperwork is supposed to arrive.
Good luck! See you in Oct if you attend!
GetnPhD,
Thanks for your input. I'm glad you mentioned that we had a chance to select which OBLC to attend. I vividly remember my recruiter telling me that I had the option of choosing when I wanted to go to OBLC, which I did. But obviously he either lied to me or somewhere it was overlooked. After a few phone calls, an email, and a text message my recruiter finally returned my call and told me it shouldn't be a problem to change but the person who will change it is out of the office until the 15th. If all goes well, I won't be attending OBLC in October so unfortunately I won't see you there but I hope it goes well for you.
For the other poster who mentioned that I had over 2 weeks to get everything done. Obviously we think differently! I'm very well aware that I can find storage and break my lease in a month. However, I don't want to feel rushed, especially when the army isn't going anywhere. I live in a different state than my family and most of my friends, so I wouldn't have a chance to even go back home and say goodbye for the 3 months I'll be gone. I actually might want to work for my current employer someday so leaving them high and dry without proper notification will not be in my best interest.

Holy Cow, that is admirable :) And a great example of what we can do when we commit all the way!
I was looking over my post again, and hope it didn't come across as smug or bragging. Jus' sayin'.
Anyway, for the record, I have to do the same thing in reverse this coming March (when I graduate), but of course, I have 6 months to plan. Actually, I wonder how much better having all that advance notice to get it done actually helps? Sometimes, I do my best work "under the gun".

I didn't think you came across smug at all. :)
I am the same way...sometimes under the gun is when I best perform!
