how can I become a certified dialysis nurse?

Published

hey everybody;)

I'm a third year BSN student.

What can I do to become a certified dialysis nurse?

Do I need work experience as a RN first?

If i do for how long?

Is there any new grad programs for dialysis nurses?

Any type of advice would be really be helpful thanku.

Specializes in hemo and peritoneal dialysis.
Specializes in Nephro, ICU, LTC and counting.

As far as I remember, you need 2000 hrs of nephrology nursing experience to sit for the CDN exam, and 2 years of nephrology exp. to sit for the CNN exam.

Many employers prefer at least a year of med- surg, or ICU experience to start with dialysis, but there may be some clinics who hire fresh grads. Most of the dialysis clinics, companies have good training programs for new starters.
