I am feeling a little down because I am getting horrible grades in A&P II. I mean 2 65s right now. I do study my *** off and have flash cards and the like. I hope I am not coming across as whining or anything but is there any one out there that had to take this more than once? I KNOW I need to know this stuff to be able to make it though NS but is thier any hope? I did the same thing in Dosage Calc. Got an F believe it or not, took it again next semester and recieved an A+. I really did'nt study that much more I think I just was more confident. Any ideas?:banghead::redbeathe

Should I get a tutor?

Hey,

Yeah, ALOT of people have to do it more than once. It's alot of information and moves very fast. If you need to take your time to learn something, and if you're not a science person, then it can be overwhelming. I had people in my A&P class this last semester that stayed in all semester, but had already decided they would take it again. They stayed in so that they could go over it all and have a better idea of what was being taught when they take it the second time. And yeah, you will feel more confident next time, and that will help.

My mom took A&P about 20 years ago, and she had people in her class that were taking it for the third time around. It does happen. I bet a tutor would help, and look for any A&P websites that might help. Here's a good one that helped me:

Good luck, and keep trying!

A&P is a very tough class so please don't get discouraged! How do you study? I know you have/make flashcards, but do you also just read your notes/book? Maybe those strategies aren't helping and you need to find a better way to study that way the material can "stick" in your brain. Post #15 of this thread has some links on study strategies:

"I really did'nt study that much more I think I just was more confident."

This stood out for me. You can definitely psych yourself in to our out of something, so maybe that's a large part of the problem here? When I first started classes I was so afraid of failing and it felt like so much was riding on the classes that I was having anxiety attacks before class. I started doing pre-class calming exercises (I like to say Hail Marys while focusing on calm breathing) and affirmations (writing down things like "I am a good student, I am doing well in school, I can succeed in school, etc).

Everyone has good suggestions about getting tutoring help and evaluating your study techniques and you should definitely do those, BUT also work on building your confidence and seeing this as something you can do.

Many take A&P more than once. You know from your experience with the drug dosage class that twice can make perfect (or close to it). I'd actually be happy if I had time to take A&P I twice but with my goal of being in n-school by fall of 09, I only have one shot to get it right so I have to hustle. :)

Thanks to you all soooo much! I feel so much better now for all your confidence. I also had a A student tell me that she doesnt read the whole book, just studys what the teacher writes down for notes. I study EVERY page. I think I am actually confusing myself.

And thanks to hiddencat for your advice I do believe with me it is all confidence, I tend to FREEZE and psyc myself out, thinking I can't do it. Again, I took A&P I lab and got an D- last semester, just kept the same notes and passed with an A+ just this week. This is why every parent should always give unconditional positive regard to thier children so that when they get to my age 49, they can fall back on those precious words.

Thanks again, This website is irreplaceable to me

God Bless,

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!:redbeathe:redbeathe:loveya:

Seaspray,

Hi! I would agree that much of it might has to do with your nerves / confidence. Personally, I really struggle with that... I am 35, have given birth to 5 children (3 of them c-section) and have lived through "bigger" things in life...but, when I get into the classroom and have to take a test...I lose it. My heart races, my hands sweat, I can't calm down. I honestly have so much anxiety that I waste A LOT of my energy worrying. (After the exam I feel like I just ran a marathon- I am exhausted). I know this is a set-back for me. I try to do some self-talk to stay calm, breathing exercises, and remind myself that this is school for pete's sake! I guess when we have so much riding on these classes we put a ton of pressure on ourselves. When our teachers require 95 + to get an A it's a constant reminder of the fact that you can't make any mistakes or you drop to a B. When I look around the classroom at the younger students in their twenties they seem so calm and relaxed. I am seriously envious! They are texting and waiting to get their test passed out and I'm ready to have an anxiety attack. The last think I can think about is texting my friends - LOL!

This is only my 3rd quarter back in college after staying home for 10 years. It was first quarter I've taken that I had really tough classes (Chemistry and Statistics). Next quarter I'm taking A & PI. I am hoping to figure out a way to have more confidence. I study hard but I am always second-guessing myself (maybe I don't know it well enough, maybe I should study more, etc). If anyone has some good advice, let me know...and maybe it will help the both of us! Just wanted you to know you aren't alone!

Hi BusyMomof5: Wow, you must be very busy. When I read your post I thought I was looking in the mirror!! Yea, the sweating palms, the racing heart and most of all the panic. I to look around and the other students younger students look like, Oh, lets just get on with it. I have (Jokeingly) said my God maybe I will just take one of my daughters valium, I NEVER would though, I dont even take an tylenol for anything. I just panic. So I finally talked myself into NOT panicing a little less:typing by "Now this works for me but I am not promoting it" Is I say to myself "What will happen if I dont pass? I will take it again" This has worked for me. I dont seem to panic as much and I enjoy learning more.

Good Luck:paw::redbeathe
