Can CNAs/volunteers pick which area?

Published

I am really interested in being a hospital volunteer, then a CNA when I am of age, but I was wondering if you can pick which area you want to volunteer or assist in? I really want to be a pediatric nurse, so I'd love to volunteer in that unit, but was not sure if that's something you can pick as a volunteer or CNA?

Thanks for the help!

I was able to pick the area I wanted to volunteer in. It all depends though on whether they need volunteers in that area or not though.

Thanks for the information, gymnut! I think I'm going to PM you to ask some more about being a volunteer, if that's okay?

Try volunteering at a children's hospital, that way you will be on a pedi floor no matter what! Good luck, I am really enjoying my time as a volunteer.

Generally you can pick where you volunteer, but at least at the hospital I volunteer at they wait about six months to put you in a patient-interacting position, mostly to make sure that you're not some crazy psycho. I volunteer on the postpartum unit myself, and have the opportunity to go to NICU or Peds if I want to. :redpinkhe

PediLove, good idea! I hadn't thought of that and there is a children's hospital around here, although it's somewhat part of another hospital.

And nohkia, thanks for the information! :) I'll try to act normal if the hospital that I'll hopefully volunteer at waits six months, too ;)
