NCLEX review books are a good start. Saunders has a comprehensive NCLEX review book. You get to study for your exam as well as get used to NCLEX style questions as well. Good luck!

Hi. I am a EC grad. I used Chancellor study guides and they had multiple choice questions in the back of each study guide. I found these very helpful for studying. I have also seen RUE guides and they also offer MCQs.

BUT... DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH ANY OF THESE COMPANIES. Their prices are ridiculous and you can buy these same study guides for about $50 or so on ebay. Good luck

Thank yoy for your replies. Actually I am at the begining, I mean I am preparing for Excelsior exams. I want to start with Nursing cocepts 1. Can you tell me are the study guides enough or do I need to read the big text books.

I was an LPN for nearly 18 years and honestly didn't study "a whole lot" for any of it, but in the beginning I did go buy a current drug book and a med-surg book just to have as a reference in case I didn't understand something unfamiliar. Mostly I just used the study guides and also used the internet when I needed to expand on a certain point. If I was to start over today - I wouldn't even buy the text books.

I understand that you are at the beginning but you can still use NCLEX review books to study. The Saunders comprehensive review book reviews different areas (ex. cardiac, respiratory, renal, culture, etc) and then has muliple choice questions about that area. I think you will find many current and previous EC students who have used NCLEX books to help them study for the EC exams. I would suggest that you invest in the suggested medsurg and fundamentals books at the very least. The content guides from EC are not intended to be the only thing that you study. I am going to sign up with College Network to get help with obtaining by RN degree. This seems to be the best way to get a AS degree, My question, is anyone out there who has received their degree through this college?

And do you think you made the right discision to get you degree?

as someone nearing the end of getting their ec asn degree, i can assure you this is a legit program. please check with your BON before enrolling! some states have specific requirements in regard to issuing licenses to ec grads.

past that, i would advise you to join some of the yahoo groups, they contain notes and some files with questions for you to practice. i bought at least one of the recommended books for each exam. usually through half.com. the best book by far that i discovered near my 5th concept exam, was the Saunders Comprehensive Review for the nclex-rn. it breaks everything down, gives a great overall review on all the subjects. for all the other exams, i read the main book chapters that were in the reading list. i made my notes, flash cards, and double checked the content guide to make sure i covered everything. also another great thing are the practice exams that ec offers. i think they run about 60 dollars, i can't remember the exact price. but i used it for nc5, just because i am not very familiar or comfortable with psych nursing (it's just hard for me to grasp, don't know why). those practice exams are worth the money if you are having a hard time with an exam.

i did not sign with a publishing company, but i know people who have. it's a personal decision, really. but if you do sign, make sure you're following the ec content guide regardless. don't blindly go by the study guide the publisher provides.

also, when you are enrolled, the epn has tips and such on their forums.
