I'm not 100% sure why the board in CA is making me take classes again here in CA. It has been 5 years since I graduated in the PI. I also tried and failed the NCLEX-RN 5 times. I'm still working on my immigration but wanted to know if this is legitimate or if I"m just being bullied around? Anyone have them do this to you?

I know in my state you have 3 times to pass your RN boards and then there is required schooling before you can test again.

Different states set different requirements. Some states allow only so many tries in a certain time frame post graduation before a person is required to start from scratch. The state can also rule that five failures constitute ineligibility for licensure. Maybe another state would allow you to retest without taking any classes. Worth looking into.

Moved to the International forum,If you take the time to read some of the threads you will see many issues currently due to enforced action by CA BRN

In all honesty, I would likely not pursue the NCLEX-RN anymore if I were in your shoes. Everything will be working against your favor at this point. You've failed the NCLEX-RN 5 times, it's been 5 years since you graduated from nursing school so in that time frame you have not practiced nursing in any form, and you're still working on "your" immigration as you pointed out which leads me to think, given retrogression, that your situation isn't really salvageable.

I'd say California is protecting it's citizens and not bullying you.
How on earth do you think you will be a safe nurse when you've never worked as a nurse and failed a basic licensing exam FIVE times?

I wouldn't have been allowed to write my RN boards 5 times. You're demonstrating that further education is required when you're unable to pass a basic exam after 5 times. There isn't much else they can do. The public needs safe nurses.

It would be in your best interest to take some sort if refresher courses. If you didn't pass the NCLEX-RN after 5 tries then there is something wrong. It could be easily that you may have some test taking disabilities that need to be addressed. Good Luck

In CA, I think you can apply unlimited times, within so many days lapsing in between the exam periods. But as it was suggested, take the time to enroll yourself in some of the various testing reviews and study hard.
Luckily, you're not applying into Canada, as they have a limit of 3 tries and after that, you're no longer eligible to become an RN as you maxed out your luck, but you can work in a LVN or CNA capacity. Good luck to you!
Incorrect to work as a LPN you still need to meet requirements and pass the Canadian LPN exam
