I obtained my GED and am now going to school for LPN and I will definitely be going for my RN afterwards. No problem at all. You most certainly can be an RN with your equivalent.

I know there are a few colleges that let you start general/pre-req courses while you're waiting for the results of your GED test. Having said that, I am pretty sure there aren't any colleges that will enroll you without having taken the GED test first.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask and we'll help the best we can. :)

I have my GED and today was my last day of nursing school for this semester. You can be a RN with a GED.

Go get your GED, then start taking pre-nursing classes such as A&P, Psych, English, Micro, Bio, Sociology, etc. Find a nursing school you are interested in and see what pre-reqs, entrance exams, etc they require.

Apply.

Go luck!

I have a GED and I'm in nursing school. Yep, you can become a nurse with a GED.

THANK YOU SOOOOO TO EVERYONE!!!!! I AM SOOO HAPPY TO HEAR OTHER PEOPLE SAYING THIS :D

You're welcome! It can be one of the most rewarding careers! It's such a great thing that a GED is just as good as a high school diploma. It gives all of us who could not finish high school, for whatever the reason, the ability to pursue all of our desires in education and careers. Good for you to pursue your long awaited dreams. Best of luck with all of your future nursing endeavors! :)

An acquaintance became an RN with a GED. Of course, first she got her GED. Then she attended a community college in CA, taking nursing school prerequisites. She completed a degree (graduated summa cum laude, as I recall) and applied to nursing schools at the time her family made a move. She was already an LPN, so ended up getting an ASN from Excelsior College and eventually got a BSN and furthered her education to become a nurse practitioner. So, the answer to your question, is yes, you can become an RN with a GED.

Just echoing what others already said, but you absolutely can become an RN with a GED! I have one too, and I plan on applying to an ABSN program next month! I'm not going to let my past hold me back from getting what I really want :) And you shouldn't either! Good luck!

I took my GED at 23 (teen mom). I just finished my prerequisites and have a 3.9 GPA. I scored in the high 90th percentile for each section of the GED. I would rather have nursing programs see my GED scores than my horrendous high school transcript.

A GED didn't stop my sister from becominga nurse!! Let that be the motivating factor for you!!

Greetings Chica,

Let me tell you what you can do with a GED, yes you can be a nurse with a ged , but let me tell you a lil about myself. I have a ged, (teenage mom, who child's father was murder 5 weeks after his birth) But I did obtain my ged but guess what I aso was able to do with a GED... I have worked in corporate America for years ok. I'm 35 and I have made more than a nurse can make after working for 5 years. I was making $64 a hour working for Kaiser as a project manager for a year and a half (consultant), I worked my way up from a Medical assistant to corporate...with a ged...I also worked in the medical IT field that gave me more of a monetary gain....Yes the money was great but my heart is in Nursing. After both my parents had strokes , I deceided to go back to school for my BSN. Now don't get me wrong it was a long struggle, and at times I still struggle trying to go to school, take care of my 13 year old daughter, and I have a 18 year old son in college. Its hard now because I have to go back to work bc I need the money but I won't let anything stop me from my degree. Yes you can do it...if you need any advice, someone to talk to that has been through it, or anything, feel free to email me...Stay strong!! Excuse the typos, I am typing from my cell ....

I know you can! I just completed my GED on the 1st of this month and am awaiting my final results. I did well on the first three tests and feel pretty confident that I did well on the last two as well.

I am going to the community college here on Monday to speak to an advisor and tour the campus and discuss my future. :D

She told me that while I wait for my results I can apply to the school and take their placement test to see what general classes I may need to take. I'm also filling out the FAFSA for financial aid.

Go for it and good luck!!
