Calling all Truman College Nursing Students

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi,

Are there any nursing students from Truman on here? Past or present. I have some questions that I can't seem to find the answer to on their website.

1. Is the admission still "lottery system" based? How would that exactly work? I saw on their website that they award points on GPA (ex: "4 X 4 = 16 pts for an A in A&P"). If it's a lottery, how come they look at GPA?

2. What GPA did you have when you got in? Are you a current or past student?

3. If it's GPA based, I think I'll have more luck getting in like that than the lottery. One last thing I wanted to ask, would any of you Truman students, past or present, be willing to sell or let me borrow your notes from Truman's Nursing School? I know you might think I'm trying to find an easy way out or cheat or something. What I really want to do, since I have the summer off, is to study ahead. I have done this in the past with Anatomy and Physiology and it has helped me tons. That's just how I learn. When I have free time, I just like to look at things from a non rushed way. Once school starts, I'll have 17 credit hours of classes and plus work. I will also be studying ahead for Microbiology and A&P this summer so I can really have a lot of time to digest the material.

*Please if you know anyone that would let me use their notes, contact me and I'll work someting out with them. :specs:

Thanks

Yea, I too was accepted to Truman with a letter that I received in the 2nd week of April dated April 9th. Now I received a letter saying I need a pre-req, although I have them all done. I don't know what is going on, but seeing all these other stories, I only assume that it was a grave error, especially since the rejection letter was dated the 5th of April. This makes me wonder if this school is really all that its supposed to be, considering they have a pretty hard time with admissions alone.

Just a quick question for those that are in Truman College or know anything about it. Do you guys know what the graduation rate and the NCLEX passing rate??

This makes me wonder if this school is really all that its supposed to be, considering they have a pretty hard time with admissions alone.

I am starting to wonder the same thing . I also applied to Daley college, and very soon they will be sending their acceptance/rejection letters and I am beeing skeptical about Truman at this point. It has cross my mind if I should just go to Daley if accepted :uhoh3:.

Is anyone in the nursing program currently and have or are taking classes with Huda, Robinson or Harmon. Can you please tell me what you think about them. I already checked their reviews on rate my professor but two of them did not come up. Any feedback will help! Thank you.

Passing rate is 100%. Graduation rate: don't know percent, but people who are not cut out for it drop out WAY before graduation. I got accepted into Truman for this fall!!!

Congratulations!!!!4hana9 and thank you for starting this thread :D

Ruby I did get your PM thanks! :] I'm still new to this site so I didn't respond your pm right away. I just registered for Pharm 103, is anyone else taking it this summer?

Yes I think that they have a good program however it is extremely disorganized and they have no respect for your time in terms of changing things last minute etc. I have only had two instructors so far, one for 101 and one for 102 and they were two completely different experiences. The teacher I took for 101, Mrs. Kipnis is the best teacher in the world! I absolutely adore her, please take her if you can you wont regret it. However, the teacher that I currently have is Mrs. Murphy whom leaves much to be desired. I do not recommend her in the least as she is completely unhelpful and refises to answer questions, does not teach, only reads from handouts. If you selected day section you will be in the day section. It is only one clinical day for the first year either tuesday or thursday from 7-1 and class monday and wednesday for 2 hours. I bought all my books in advance cause I was so excited but I would suggest just buying the package from the school. They have a package of all required books that is about 1000 dollars. I bought a crap load of books I dont even need and access codes that they just give you anyway at school, super mad about that. So if you want to buy the books seperately I would just buy them as you use them, you will really only need the fundamentals book, the pharmacology book and a couple others for 101. I have about 35 books total I think, I recommend getting Fundamentals Success which is a great book filled with practice questions on nursing content. I used this to study for tests in 101 and soem of the questions from the book were actually on the tests! I also highly recommend Saunders NCLEX review, the blue book, it is an excellent resource and all of my friends have it as well. I dont think that you need to take the Pharm class now at all! I am taking it to keep my head in the game so to speak because next year is going to be really challenging. Pharm 103 is calculations and Pharm 104 is actual pharmacology and is taught by Mr. Worms who is the Med Surg second year teacher, I think it would be very helpful to get to know him before entering second year but taking it now couldnt hurt either. I have a friend that took it the summer before school started, but I dont think it matters. I have maybe learned 10 drugs this whole first year! You will be fine. Oh and last semester I was at St. Josephs hospital and this semester I am at Illinois Masonic. Next year I am at Illinois Masonic again, St. Marys and Chicago Reed I think. There are tons of hospitals that Truman works with. You get to pick the hospital based on the teacher you choose, like if you pick Ms. Kipnis you will be at St. Joes. By the way, show up for orientation early, you register for 101 in the order you arrived that day! I was the first person there because I wanted to take Ms. Kipnis and was worried she would fill up fast! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you gonnabeanurse! Your information really help a lot. I just registered for Pharmacology 103 but after reading your post I might skip it and take 104 next summer. I could really use that money on the fall books since they're going to be expensive! I want to take Prof. Kipnis too! I heard great things about her and as soon as I found out I got accepted I stopped by her office to talk to her. She's a sweetheart! She's been giving me great advice about the program. I'm gonna have to get there early for registration!

Gina, I am new to this site as well, did you respond to my PM or not? because I don't see it in my messages.(Unless I am not looking right)

Regarding Pharm 103, I am going to skip it as gonabeanurse11 suggested. I will take Pharm 104 next summer instead. Do you know who many students per Instructor? and in case Mrs. kipnis' class gets full, which is another good instructor for nursing 101?:)

You're welcome Ruby2623!!

It's 32 students per instructor and there are 6 instructors (4 for day and 2 for night). Also, 8 people per clinical.

4hana9, thank you for the info. any other instructor for nursing 101 in case Mrs. kipnis class gets full?

The instructors for Nursing 101 are:

DAY:

Kipnis

Romba

Preston

Murphy

NIGHT:

Huda

Harmon

I've heard (from a person who heard from a person) that Preston is also good.
