Calling all NICU nurses in the Atlanta area!

Published

Hi all,

I'm new to Georgia. Just moved to a north Atlanta suburb in October. I took a few months off of work to get the kids and house settled and now I'm ready to go back to work. I have 6 years level 3 nicu experience. However, the 2 nicu's I've worked in were fairly small and we didn't get a ton of babies with vents/lines. I'm not very comfortable with these babies and would prefer to find a small level 3 or a level 2 nicu in the area. I feel like I've searched all the hospitals in the area, including downtown, and they are all level 3 or 4. Anyone know of a smaller nicu around here that doesn't get a lot of or any vents? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

I don't know of any level 2 nicu in the area. I just started at Emory. I'm coming from a med surg background and am in a 3 month orientation. You should apply, I think you'd get the three month training

Do you like Emory? I've heard they are really good. Is it level 3 or 4? I suppose with more orientation I could become comfortable with the higher acuity babies. I have no desire to do level 4 though. Best of luck with your orientation! I also have med surg and mom/baby background. Going to nicu from med surg is so awesome because it is so different and the babies are way better than med surg patients (in my opinion). Thanks for your response!

Also, which location are you at and how many beds is your unit?

I work at emory midtown, it's a level 3 nicu. Most of the hospitals in atlanta are at least level 3, but the level system is subjective from what I've read. It's a 33 bed unit. I really like it here, I worked at a different hospital before, this is much better.

Specializes in NICU.

Go for it,get the training, keep learning.
