i have applied for Cali but I failed=(

Where are you planning on working?
I personally would stay with Ca pass NCLEX and then look to another state as you will more than likely be affected by retrogression and will take more than 3 years to get a visa. If you go to NY then you have to go through CVS and looking at approx 8 months before you can sit NCLEX.

I am confused...the OP stated that the "NY license is lifetime". I've never heard of a license that doesn't require renewal after a period of 2-3 years.

I think it's wrong info, maybe a mixup with the impression that California destroys the file in case there's no SSN.
But my question is, why have you failed your California application??
Thanks for pointing that out 5cats, had missed that.
OP be aware most states have same or very similar requirements even with training so if you failed with one there is no guarantee you will meet requirements with another
what i mean is I failed nclex the first time, i applied at cali state. i really dont understand about the 3 years in cali. i think if i pass in cali nclex, i need to get nclex again after 3 years if i didnt give them ssn no. right?
California will deleted your file if you do not provide them with a SSN within the time frame. If they delete your file then your NCLEX results are deleted and have to re sit it. If you pass with Ca then we recommend before your 3 years are up that you apply to another state and request Ca forward your results. Which ever state you apply to you will need to meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse before they will allow you to sit NCLEX. With retrogression and time expected to take longer than 3 years to get a work visa we do not recommend Ca for initial licensure so it is your choice whether to apply now to another state and start over or stay with Ca sit and pass NCLEX then apply to another state. NY does their own assessment (CVS) and takes approx 8 months before you will be able to sit NCLEX
thank you for your quick response i really appreciate it=)
how about in NY state? they said their license is for lifetime but I just re register again for renewal (every 2 years i think) do i have to take nclex again in NY state? like cali that I should re-sit nclex again after 3 years.. may i know NY requirements about their re-registration?
thanks a much=)
All states accept NCLEX even Ca. I would say lifetime as long as you keep nursing experience and/or active license the changes occur if you license has lapsed. The only reason with Ca that you may have to resit NCLEX is if your file is destroyed because you haven't given them a SSN within the 3 years. There are a few states that will not issue you a license without proof that you are either a USC or have a legal work visa for the US however they do not delete your file so everything is safe until you can provide them with your SSN (once in teh US on a legal work visa)
thank you for that informations.. 'til next time=)
You take NCLEX once and keep registered, I would advise, since you started the whole process in California and are eligible to sit NCLEX to stick with them for now, retake NCLEX pass (hopefully) and during the following years decide to which State you want to apply, before California destroys your file.
Requirements do change, so that will give you time as well to look for a State that suits you. NY is special as well in their requirements, if you not really want to live and work there, I personally would look for a board that accepts either the California evaluation, or CES (full), because then you will be fine for most States.
if I retake nclex for Cali and if I pass and look for another state so that they will forward my results. you think it will take a long time to process than applying for NY at this time?
thanks!
