U.S.A. California

I am in the process of turning in my Fall 2017 application. I take my TEAS test at the end of February.

Anyone else on here looking to transfer to Sac State in 2017?

If you memorize all of these you before you start you will be in pretty good shape going in.

Specializes in Psychiatric/Mental Health, Med-Surg, Corrections.

Thanks so much!

Thank you! Anymore abbreviations that need to be memorized? Any pharmacology basics?

There I are a million more abbreviations. I would just stick with those for now. You will learn more throughout nursing school..and there are always new ones popping up here and there. If you want to learn like the basic endings of pharmaceutical meds like -lol, -pril, dipine, etc. It wouldn't hurt but If you feel comfortable with everything I gave you I would start learning not only the normal lab values but start trying to understand what it means if something is low or high. A good place to start is with chem 7, cbc, and ABGs.

Respiratory...COPD...what to do and what not to do in regards to nursing interventions will be a big part of your first midterm...So, it might be helpful to read up a bit on types of O2 devices titration levels and when to use them...I wouldn't stress out too much though...School will be crazy busy and stressful as it is. Try to enjoy the summer and rest up a bit while you can.. ;)

I also very much appreciate the preparation tips. I'm starting the abbreviations and lab values now. I've also picked up "Clinical Pathophysiology Made Ridiculously Simple" and began reading through it for good measure. Good luck to all the Fall applicants! I can't wait to get to know you better, once we get in!

Hi everyone! I am also eagerly awaiting the admissions decision! I have 97 points (4.0 GPA, 95.3 TEAS, 6 optional criteria), but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I am sold on going to a two year program and will have to decide between CSULB (admitted, 5 semesters) and Sac state (if I get admitted, 4 semesters). I'm leaning towards Sac since I will get a summer : ) Best of luck to you all!

nurse2b_hayley, thank you so much for all the advice! how do you like the program at Sac? where do students do their clinicals, and do they get to rotate sites throughout the two years? I've heard phenomenal things about the faculty, facilities, and the program overall

I really like it! It is crazy busy but like you said the facilities, my peers, and the instructors are all really nice. Right now as far as locations where we do our clinicals...UC Davis, sutter, Kaiser, and Mercy Folsom. I might be leaving some out. I'm currently at Davis. You do rotate. However, sometimes you might be at the same facility for a year.

Those clinical sites sound great, and I am so glad you are enjoying the program! I am used to insane busyness, yet do you feel that it is doable? Are people able to continue the academic performance that was necessary to get in the program after they are in the BSN program?

Some are, but nursing school is not a place to expect to get a 4.0. Each semester you have to work really hard just to pass and many people get Cs for the first time on exams. I would say though that the majority of students probably have As and Bs.
