New RN program in So Cal!?!

U.S.A. California

For anyone who might care to share any info on this please do!

I was browsing http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/rnprograms.shtml and voila a new RN program?! Everest offers a RN program?! I'm well aware of the LVN private schools and the public schools with the waiting lists for the RN. This must be a VERY new program, but its listed as accredited. I intend to call them as I'm a LVN student right now, but I had not noticed this school on the website a few months ago. I guess I'll give them a call, my curiosity must be settled.... definitely good news for nursing students in so cal.

Need more convincing?? Here's another:

CSU Northridge RN-to-BSN brochure:

PAGE 4, under "Requirements", #1:

"Associates Degree in Nursing, or its equivalent, from a regionally accredited program"

Everest College in Ontario, CA is accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Specializes in Emergency Department.

Approval by the board of nursing is NOT regional accreditation. Regional accreditation comes from this body: WASC. I don't see Everest listed here or here. I think you need to ask Everest when they will be regionally accredited especially if you have a goal of CRNA. The CSUF program won't take Everest because they are not regionally accredited (they have the CNM program I want and the CRNA you want).

:yeah:EverestRN,

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my questions. Have u started school already? I would like to keep in touch with you and in progress with Everest College. I'm so excited for you :clown:

Specializes in Med Assistant, EMT and CNA.
Does El Camino only accept students attending at their college for the nursing program?

No they accept students from other schools too. if you have good grades and have the pre-reqs completed then you can into the program.

The main College has a waiting list with over 200 people on it.

Their Compton campus does not have a waiting list. You got the grades and the requirements then you will get in.

They try to be fair and allow their students in because they attended the school to get into the program but if you beat their scores they are not going to tell you no. You can get in the program.

Hello everyone,

I really can't see all that money to go to a private school when you can pay so much less. If you got the pre reqs look at El Camino College Compton Campus.

They do not have a waiting list. If you have your pre reqs and you are a student at the college and you have good grades then you will have no problem getting in.

They are the only Community College campus with no waiting list.

They have regular ASN and LVN to RN.

I am getting my pre reqs done starting this coming semester so that I can get into the program myself.

Why pay $40,000 when you can pay maybe $5000 to $7000 to get through school with prepreqs and supplies.

Don't spend all that money. If you are close to Compton check out the Compton campus of El Camino College.

Check with the nursing department for the next orientation session.

Good Luck everyone!!!

El Camino uses the lottery system every with a GPA of over 2.5 is considered and there have been people waiting to get in for over 3 years despite what the counsellors may tell you.

I guess not many people know about Compton Comunity College now being El Camino College Compton Campus. Yes Compton College is now part of El Camino College.

They have their own seperate Nursing Program seperate from the El Camino Main Campus who has the big waiting list. Compton HAS NO waiting list.

You are talking about the El Camino Main Campus who has the waiting list.

My God Mother is the Interim Dean of the Compton campus and the Assistant Director of El Camino Colleges Nursing Department so I know.

I went to the Nursing Program Orientation and got all the infomration as well as talk to my god mother. If I hear of the next orientation I will post it on here so anyone can go hear for themselves.

If you go to Torrance to the El Camino Main Campus on Crenshaw, you will be waiting a couple of years to get into the program.

If you go to the Compton Campus You will not wait unless you have not met the pre reqs. Their pre reqs are the Same because they are under El Camino College.

If you went to El Camino and did all their pre reqs and are waiting on that long list, Go to the Compton Campus and see the Nursing Counselor Essie Preston to get start there.

Once again there are 2 different programs. 1 in torrance with a waiting list and 1 in Compton with NO waiting list.

Have a good Day and Good Luck Ladies!!!!

Good to know though seeing how popular this board is I bet the number of applicant's triples in the next week or so :D

No kidding

Specializes in Med Assistant, EMT and CNA.

Yeah they might. When I was at the orientation there were alot of students checking out the program.

They also have an LVN to RN too for those who are already LVNs.

I forgot to mention that.

Good Luck Ladies.

I can't wait to get to school myself.

God Bless

Hi, Just to let everyone know. I recently went and talked to a counselor at ECC to ask for an application for the nursing program and was told that El Camino will NOT be accepting applications untill FALL of 2009, and then you would not be able to start untill FALL of 2010, because they are getting rid of the waitinglist. Everyone who was already on the waitlist will be accepted into the program durring the mean time. From then on there will be no waitlist acceptance will be based on gpa.

This is rediculious, a 2 year wait even if you have finished all your pre-req's and are ready to apply, even though people currently on the wait list may have some pre-req's in progress of have yet to even take them.
