Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

Harparia and maiday, thanks!!! I will check the catelog...I didn't know that! I needed to check because my fiance's grandparents are planning a trip. We usually leave Christmas day because it's cheaper to fly on that day. :D

Hey ALIinSD...I am not sure if you are still reading this thread but are you taking SPN 340A right now??? If so...I think I am in your class! :D

Hey Twilight...sorry i didn't get back to you sooner. I was super busy w/ class and the Holidays. Yes, I was taking that class! Sorry I missed you. I'm currently in Crosscultural Communications (SPN 341) How did you do in Spanish in the workplace? I thought it was actually pretty easy.....surprisingly but the info seemed to be helpful for nursing.

ALIinSD: have you received any notifications at all since applying for the July 2010 cohort? I was told nothing can be expected until late Feb or early Mar.

Hey 9fingers,

I JUST heard back from the admissions lady today! I e-mailed her last week b/c a few of my friends took the TEAS last week and were wondering why I wasn't there.....So, I was worried and it had been over 6 weeks since she said she received my application. She emailed me back and said to be patient and that everyone who applied would get a chance to take the TEAS, but it just takes a long time to process the applications. So, I finally got my email to sign up for the test and essay today! The only test dates left are this Thursday and next Tuesday (Jan. 21st and 26th). So, I have a week to study! I hope you've heard back from her by now. This process is unnecessarily long and it is driving me crazy! Supposedly, they will send out acceptance letters or e-mails the first week of March. I won't hold my breath though!!! Good luck!

Hey prettyinpink! The only class I have taken so far is the SPN 340A. I did not find that one hard at all. I got an A with minimal effort. I guess all the years of Spanish classes in high school paid off! Although I don't really remember much!

I agree...SPN 340A was very easy and I got an A with minimal effort as well. It does help if you have had other spanish classes before. I took 4 years of high school Spanish, so this just seemed more like a review for me with a few new vocabulary words related to nursing/health care. Also, most of the answers for the excercises that we did for homework were in the back of the book. I didn't copy them, but always double checked my answers w/ them before turnign in my work. I'm sure you'll do fine!

National tries to take away your validity in complaining and being upset about last minute changes by saying, "We tooooold you, you need to be flexible. " It's awfully irritating.

Harparia,

I can only imagine how irritating this is! I have asked both my advisor and even the people at the nursing forum to nail down some times or give me ideas of clinicals and they all say that it varies and you have to be flexible. They said that they will usually give you about a month's advance notice, but I've heard otherwise. I'm just worried because I have an almost 3 year old and a 4 1/2 year old who will be starting Kindergarten in August, and I'm planning on starting the July cohort. Trying to find childcare at such a late notice is going to be terrible I have a feeling.

Well I hope SPN 340A is easier than SPN 341 because there is SO much work for this class! (Not to mention my teacher is tough when it comes to grading!) I asked him why I got 39/40 for my first 2 discussions (not like I care all that much, just curious as to what constitutes a 1 point deduction) and he said because "40/40 is perfect work, something that is very hard to come by." LOL. Oh joy, I can only wonder what I'll get on my 5 page paper I'm going to somehow find time to write that's out of 200 points... I'm pulling an "A" luckily because I have my classmates in my OB class who are taking it with me to study with and what not. **Advice to prospective nursing students - If you can, I highly recommend taking SPN 340A, SPN 341 and SOC 500 (or HUB 500) before starting the program. This only applies to those who do not already hold a bachelor's degree. Luckily one week from Saturday will be the end of my OB rotation and the end of SPN 341! Woohoo! :D :D Getting closer and closer!:grad:

It is irritating. They told us to have a back up plan, for your back up plan. There are some things that you cannot miss or you cannot proceed. If an unavoidable issue comes up though and you can't go to clinical, most of the clinical instructors are understanding about it, as long as you talk to them. The protocol is to have you write a big paper with at least 3 resources, but there was only one instructor that that stuck to that requirement.

Hopefully, you wont need your backup plan or you will have nice instructors if an issue arises.

Congrats on getting into the July Cohort. :yeah:

If you have the time and a bit of extra $$ I HIGHLY recommend getting the Feuer RN audio reviews from

http://www.f-n-r.net/pharmacology.html#home_overview

I got the pharm and the whole review and used it through my courses and though it was a bit pricey, it was totally worth the investment.

Good luck with everything!

Hi ALIinSD! Guess who is also in your current SPN341 class! I agree, SPN340A was extremely easy! I did not even notice that I was even taking a class! I also got a A but I had no idea the answers were in the back of the book! Good luck to you on your TEAS and essay! I am sure you will be fine!

PrettyinPink: Sorry your instructor is hard on you! I am taking it now and I am doing pretty well. I think he also offers extra credit. I was looking at my gradebook and notice my grade was over 100%. I guess it really depends on the teachers...mine is a goofball. Definitely NOT looking forward to that paper though...:barf02:

I can't believe my orientation is less than a month away! I still need to get my stuff done! I tried making an appointment with my primary physician for the physical but he has no available appointments before my orientation... :(

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knew the exact classes I am able to take before the nursing program, for instance Spanish for the workplace, etc. I was also wondering if you are able to CLEP test out of those spanish courses necessary for the program. If anyone can get back at me, I would greatly appreciate it.

The class you take is only available at National University. They do not accept anysubstitutions for the Spanish courses. I had a course titled "Spanish for the health care worker" and they wouldn't accept the transfer. There were even 3 native speakers in my class, and they couldn't get out of it. It's ridiculous; to be forced to take those courses, at $1300 a class a pop, is akin to highway robbery! I learned N-O-T-H-I-N-G.

Rant done.

aww that sucks. Do you know which classes exactly you can take before you enter the nursing program and do you know if you can take them online?

Yeah, I said them like 3 posts back... They are SPN 341, SPN 340A and SOC 500 (or HUB 500)
