Help me crunch some numbers in living in LA

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey everyone...

Well let me just sum it up by saying I'm in the pac nw and I can't find a new grad job...especially days. Plus I want to get back to warmer weather. I applied at a large teaching hospital in LA...I am pretty sure it's over on the west side..nearer to beverly hills side... anyway...

Questions for those living there now...

Anyone work here (If you do you'll know where I'm referring)? Thoughts?

They are not union....are there union hospitals in calif?

They start ADN new grad days at 28.50 - is this low? Goes up about another 1.50 or so in 10 months..then I think at one year about another 1.50 which puts you about 31. per hour after a year... plus another 1.50 if you get your bsn...plus another .85 cents per each cert you get in your specialty....

But again is this low? they also offer free bsn/msn if you should desire... they do require a contract and have a SMALL relocation reimburse..which is 2500 w/the agreement you pay them back if you don't work out for one year (which I think is fair, ...)

but again..with the cost of living what it is...is this a bad wage?

The bonus here is .... roll right into the specialty I wanted..days. In fact..my choice of these two specialties I like..... interview is phone interview and you get hired that way....

Position doesn't start till Feb....

So anyway...what do you think of the above? And then...help me crunch the numbers on cost of living....commute..if you would..I know it's been said before but it's huge...and hard to find. I have heard Sylmar etc is the place to live... Olive ....Sylmar..etc... so what does that cost? (I have 2 young kids and single parent)

What about the commute...driveable..that is heading west? Bad? 12H shifts...I didn't ask (will have to ) but assume 7 to 7:30. SMack dab at rush hour..eh?

Parking is only 33 a month..benes for the whole family are 46 to 86 per month).... so cheap...

Sooo what do ya'll think/suggest? THANKS in advance.
