Do you have to pass the NCLEX before your hired in CA? I know in Missouri you can start working but have to pass NCLEX within 3 months.

You can apply for an interim permit after you graduate and work for six months with the permit. But some hospitals require you to have a license.

It really depends on the hospital. The hospital I work at hires people with just their IP, but most of these people are new grads who externed/were PCAs already at the hospital. I don't think many hospitals in the bay area/socal do because they have so many new grad applicants who are already RNs that they can be a bit picky.
